I would think you could still get the basic courses that first year (writing, math, some GEs) if not the intro engineering courses. @GamerGal27 do you know the answer to @yuiuy19 question? You may also want to call the coordinator for TTP - did they give you contact department person/phone # on your letter?
@CADREAMIN yes I’ve contacted the AUP administrations about this and they’re still working to check whether I can transfer as a computer science undergraduate. I posted here to hear from first-hand experiences.
I would like to know if anyone or if anyone knows anyone who has successfully transferred to USC from AUP with a computer science major. And is it a better idea if I just go for undeclared?
It really isn’t up to AUP, your major is determined by USC. Is CS what what you applied to? The TTP majors I know of were admitted to the majors they had applied to. Being able to take math and physics, and GEs that count at the school you go to can be important, so you stay on track.
@CADREAMIN okay thank you for your help
@yuiuy19 If you haven’t done so already, be sure to contact your USC counselor. That person will work with you on class selection related to your goals.
@yuiuy19 When my son went to AUP he was there for only one semester and took three GEs and writing. I don’t believe any of the CS courses transferred over.
@GamerGal27 so where did he go to? Was he taking CS when he was in AUP? And did the courses he took transferred anywhere?
He was a Spring admit so a completely different situation since he was already accepted to USC. I guess it’s possible to get all your GEs, writing and diversity requirements done at AUP over the two semesters. But then you would jump right into your CS courses and that could be kind of tough.
Hi everyone! Last year I received the TTP in my rejection letter, followed through with the TTP, and received my admission letter around late March! It was the happiest day of my life and I thought I’d share some insight and advice for those high school seniors during this stressful and important decision-making season.
For those considering the TTP: DO IT! If you guys are 100% sure that USC is still your dream school, I highly recommend pursuing the TTP. Although I did miss out on the freshmen experience since I attended a community college for 1 year, I absolutely do not regret my decision because I will be spending 3 whole years at my dream school! Personally, when I was choosing between enrolling in my back-up universities or pursuing the TTP through a community college, I decided to choose the TTP because I knew I would much rather be spending my expensive college tuition on a school that I know I will actually be truly happy attending.
My thoughts on community college: Although there is a pretty negative stigma about attending a community college, my experience wasn’t bad at all. I was worried about getting good grades to meet their minimum gpa, but honestly, my classes at community college were MUCH easier than my high school classes. I obviously still worked very hard because I wanted to do everything I could to increase my chances of getting admission. But, getting a 4.0 is very feasible. Also, you are only going to be going to the community college for 1 year (time will fly super fast I promise) and you will be saving a ton of money! Almost 40% of USC’s transfer students come from community colleges!
Basically, as long as you receive a 3.6 and above, complete your major requirements, make progress towards completing ge’s, and send in a transfer application, you are basically guaranteed. When I talked to my admissions counselor, she told me that GPA is the most important factor that determines your admission. There is no need to pursue extracurricular activities/clubs because your GPA is the most important!
Overall, I can say that my transfer progress was successful and I am very pleased that I decided to pursue the TTP. I completely understand how worried and anxious you guys are because I was in your place a year ago. But trust me, if you just follow what your admission counselor tells you to do, you are basically guaranteed admission!
Best of luck to all of you and feel free to ask me more questions! Fight on!
Hi, im going to be graduating high school this year, however i didnt even bother applying to USC beacause of my subpar grades and the fact that i took no AP classes, so i decided transfering would be my best option. Can i still apply for the TTP even though i didnt do an application. Also my mom went there as an umdergrad, would that increase my chances?
No, the TTP is offered only to applicants who were borderlined or well qualified applicants that had to be turned away that USC admissions liked. I believe you have to apply during your sophomore year for your junior year at USC.
You can actually apply as a sophomore transfer, just not under TTP. Need to complete 30 units. If interested in transferring, I strongly suggest checking the USC transfer website - ton of detailed info there - and also jumping onto this thread, reading through as much as you can. There are some helpful poster over there!

If you apply as junior (earned 64 or more credits) you must declare major. If coming in less than junior you can apply as “open” or under a major.
There is no minimum number of transfer units you must complete before applying for admission. However, if you have completed fewer than 30 units, they will focus primarily on your high school record and scores from the SAT or ACT.
I’m gonna attend UCSB for my first year, and hopefully transfer to USC my second year under TTP! Going to schedule the appointment next month!! Hopefully we all become Trojans!!
@CADREAMIN: If what you say is true in completing 30 semester units and transfering as a sophomore, then is there any advantage or point in having the TTP?
Yes, big advantage. The TTP is an “invite only” status that gives a student personal guidance from an advisor and a special "star’ on their file that basically says, “This person is admitted if they get the grades and classes they are told to take” at a meeting that is not offered to regular transfers. They are students that would have been accepted if there was more room, simple as that. They have as close to a guarantee of admission without having one. (Wish they would change that btw.) They have never denied a TTP applicant that met the marks. Regular transfers apply more “cold” (without previous relationship and review) and have a 29% acceptance rate.
@KingShahhh i actually decided to pick uc davis over uc santa barbara hopefully we’ll still end up at SC in a year!!
forsure!! good luck! and yeah hopefully at SC! @magiebaste
