The Update- REVISED

Reasons for revision: Forgot to specify weighted and unweighted GPA, I just put unweighted. Also had to make a change to next year's schedule, and my colleges of interest which I probably should not even include because they will change every time the topic of college comes up in a conversation and I hear about another good one, or a serious issue with one I thought was good.

I've recently had some changes to my academic achievements and blunders and all that. Feel free to voice opinions as long as they are not unreasonable or obnoxious.

Colleges of interest: Baylor, UT Austin, UT Arlington (safety, and I've heard it's up and coming), UCLA if I move back to California and obtain residency which I can because my parents have owned a house there and I can make it obvious that I intend to stay after a while.

Cumulative GPA: 3.81uw, 4.4w.

AP classes taken: Psychology (taking the test on Tuesday.)
PreAP's taken: Geometry (only one the school I attended my freshman year offered), PreAP World Geography, PreAP Computer Programming, PreAP Chemistry, PreAP Algebra 2, PreAP English,
Junior year advanced courses: AP Chemistry, AP English Compositiion, AP US History, Independent Study in Science, PreAP Precalculus, PreAP Spanish 3, and PreAP Physics.

Senior year advanced courses: AP Physics, AP Biology, AP English Literature, AP Economics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish 4, AP Statistics; that should be enough. I know that looks like torture, may need a reduction.

NOTE: My school operates on this odd semester basis. A full course lasts 18 weeks, certain courses such as Calculus AB are 9 weeks, and then I go into BC unlike most schools where I would just go to BC.

Extracurricular Activities/honors

Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society)
Habitat for Humanity
Math UIL- going to join next year, invited by a teacher.
Porsche Club of America Maverick Region writer.
Classical and Blues Piano, Rock and Classical Guitar.
Who's Who in High School Students
National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine
EHS next year, didn't remember to sign up this year.

Random things I've done that may be of interest to a college, or may not:

I wrote a book in my spare time over last summer, won the Creative Writing Award for it.
I wrote a computer program with a long list of colleges and majors, as well as other future predictions. I posted that on this website, some of you may know about it. Someone suggested that I send that to colleges.

Oh, and I forgot my community service.

100 or so hours, with Habitat for Humanity for some, other stuff on my own. I'm going to volunteer at the hospital this summer too since I want to be a doctor.

standardized test scores?

I'm only a sophomore, should have specified that. Took the SAT for the heck of it and I got an 1800. My counselor said it was pretty good for a sophomore, but I figured it was useless to mention because know one can really calculate how much I'm going to improve between now and when I take it with the intent of getting my final score.

I'm hoping for 2000+. So yes, I understand we cannot really make an accurate prediction of anything without a final SAT, but I ask that the 1800 not be regarded as my final score, because that would be sad if I kept that.

Dang, 22 hours and I'm already on the third page. Come on people now, lalala, I don't know the rest of the words. You know what song I'm talking about though, right?

Does anyone have anything to say to me? A lot of you have probably already said stuff to me, in which case I understand the lack of posts.

Come on new people though.

Hey texas, wanna start a non-profit organisation together? I am really serious and I have a great plan but I need your help. PM me if interested :)

You must be from England with that spelling of "organization."

It seems you lack leadership positions. I actually studied in England for six month :)

Yeah I've gotta figure out the leadership thing and do it. How bout everything else?

You also lack community service, which is very important :)

He put his community service in his second post.

Good call MomofWildChild.

It's kinda crazy because I've been doing community service my whole life, I probably have like 5000 hours, but I figure I can only count what I did in high school.

who's who isn't app worthy

Thanks lolok, people have been telling me that on this forum. I have a feeling that by the end of high school I'll have a lot of things to put on my application and I'll leave out some of the lesser achievements, and I will keep what you said in mind.

So NYLF is app worthy then? Some whacko cynic once told me it wasn't.

^It's not. It's not anything competitive, nor is it anything thats "app-boosting" in a sense. It shows you're willing to pay, and some people DO have good experiances from it; however, almost anyone that pays gets to go, and its often a self-nomination/sign up thing.

So nothing BAD to put it on your app, but don't think it'll help your application in the smallest sense.

^That may be the cynic I was talking about, but I won't point fingers. I'm alright with Tami.

Thank you for the advice. I didn't think it was that app boosting, but it's something I did and learned something from, so I'm putting it on my applications.

I didn't sign up on my own, I was sent mail about it. The qualifications were that you held at least a 3.3 GPA and there was one other thing but I forgot what it was.

I understand that some ivy league may not consider it worthy, but that's not where I plan on applying.

Thank you for the advice Tami. I usually try to look at things with a perspective of learning versus wasting time, rather than application boosting or not. NYLF sounds like learning to me, so that's why I'm going to do it.

Does anyone else have any opinions. Not on what is app worthy or not, I've got that at this point, but just on my statistics and that kind of thing.

It's not cynical to tell you the truth- Who's Who and NYLF simply aren't honors worth including.

There's absolutely no use in commenting on your stats at this point- you don't have real SAT scores for us, and your GPA is bound to change.

Stop thinking about college for a while, and come back in a year.

I finished my sophomore year, I think end of junior year would be a little too late elizabeth.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think I'll take it.
