The USC Norman Topping Student Aid Fund

I just received an email from USC telling me to apply for The USC Norman Topping Student Aid Fund scholarship. Is this an automated email sent to all applicants or what? I find it odd that they send out an email like this for a scholarship from USC while acceptance letters haven't been sent out.

The Topping Scholarship Fund is the only student initiated, student paid and partially student administered scholarship fund in the nation. Students are selected for academic promise and community service. Once enrolled Topping Scholars help to mentor new scholars.

Many Topping Scholars come from the community around SC. The application is NOT sent to every applicant. I have no idea why you have received a form this soon. Perhaps the letters of admission will be sent out early this year for those who will be interviewed for merit scholarships.

Since this is the first year the university has used the common application some procedures have been changed. More information about the Topping Scholarships can be found on the USC website. Use the search function.

I got that email too… But I don’t live anywhere near the Usc campus

Stanford Girl,
The post indicated “many” are from around the SC campus, not all.

I know. I read the email. It also says that first generation student ate eligible but most of the scholarships go to so-cal residents. Thanks for the clarification.

I got that email about the same time as you guys. I live in the midwest… Does this mean anything?

I think its odd that only certain people got it, but other than that I guess we will have to wait and see.

I got an email about this on the 13th. I really do wonder if it’s indicative of anything? I can dream haha.

has anyone heard if they got admitted or not after recieving this e-mail. I think its stupid if this scholarship, NTSAF, has a bunch of “possible” admitted studnets send their information out even though they haven’t technically gotten accepted. Don’t you guys think so???

I received an email as well, a few weeks ago. I don’t think this has anything to do with an applicant’s status, but rather whether he or she indicated that they will be applying/have applied for financial aid. This scholarship is for low income students only. If you have not received an invitation to apply, this is probably why.

darox94, if you feel the application requirements for the NTSAF scholarship are “stupid,” there is absolutely no requirement that you apply to that scholarship program. Simply ignore the email suggestion that you apply.

I just checked the NTSAF website, and unfortunately the postmark deadline for freshman applicants for 2012-2013 passed February 10th, 2012 (yesterday). Good luck to those who applied for this wonderful scholarship!

Transfer and graduate applicants have until May 10th, 2012 to apply.

We know a student that has been invited to apply to this type of scholarship by 3 schools - she has only been formally accepted to one. She was told that these types of scholarships are usually decided upon by a group that is not directly connected to admissions.

First of all I would like to thankyou for your intake on all of my questions. They were extremely helpful and second of all I would like to apologize for my poor choice of words in regards to the NTSAF scholarship. I am a first generation college student and I feel it is my responsibility to make sure I start a family tradition of attending USC. I don’t think the scholarship requirements are “stupid” I just find the requierements a bit teasing. I am sorry if my poor choice of words upset you. Adding to my anxiety is my ACT scores. I scored a mediocre 23 on the test and looking through USC’s students scores, I feel overwelmed and also upset with myself. I hope you didn’t take my comment to close to heart. I apologize

Just got called today, got the scholarship!
Anyone else get called!?

w00t! Great going hidalgo.

Best wishes!

Hey guys I was wondering if Norman Topping notifies you if you don’t get called for an interview or get the scholarship? Or do they just notify those they accept
