USC topping scholarship?

I recently got an email from USC about the Topping Scholarship, even though I have not been admitted (obviously, letters are not sent out until a couple of months). Is there a reason that I got this email? I am not really sure if I even qualify for it. I am a first generation college student but I don't think my family has high financial need. I mean paying $60,000 a year is a lot for my family to pay for college but we are still well off. How would I know if I am qualified?

What did the email day? Do you mind posting ths message? Thanks in advance! I’m getting kind if nervous because I didn’t get a email about the topping scholarship. :-(

*day>>>I meant say…lol

Dear Prospective USC Student,

As a 2013-2014 USC applicant, you have a wonderful opportunity to assist in funding your education at USC. The USC Norman Topping Student Aid Fund (NTSAF) is a unique scholarship program that provides tuition assistance, academic development, community service programs, and exceptional funding opportunities to entering USC students.

The purpose of the Fund is to assist students with high financial need who demonstrate an extraordinary level of community awareness in their pursuit of higher education at USC. Initiated by a student referendum in 1970, the NTSAF is the only student-initiated, student-funded and primarily student-administered scholarship in the nation. Applicants residing in areas surrounding the University Park and Health Science campuses, in addition to first-generation college students, are given primary consideration in the selection process. Please note that the scholarship is not limited to these populations.

If you are selected as a USC Topping Scholar, the scholarship will be renewable for the duration of your undergraduate career as long you remain in good standing with the Fund. The amount of the NTSAF award is based on your individual USC financial aid package. The average freshman award is approximately $4,000. Please note the deadline for first-year applicants to submit the online Topping Scholarship application: February 8, 2013

Please visit our website at [USC Norman Topping Student Aid Fund](http://www.usc.edu/ntsaf) for updated program information, current services, and to access the 2013-2014 instructions and online scholarship application. Feel free to contact us at (213) 740-7575 or ntsaf@usc.edu if you have any questions.

We look forward to receiving your USC Topping Scholarship application!

Sincerely,

Christina

Thanks and congrats! Does this also mean you’ll be receiving a merit scholarship or something?

No it’s just telling me that I should apply for it. There is no way I would be qualified for a merit scholarship lol I think I just got this email because I am a first generation college student.

Do you know if students who did not get the email apply? If it says that the scholarship is not limited to those populations what is the eligibility?

I’m a Quest-bridge and first generation applicant, and I didn’t get one. :-(

Hey I know it’s been a long time since someone wrote on this forum. But I am also a first generation quest bridge applicant. My sister is a topping scholar and even though you didn’t get the email you can still get apply for it. Although you only hAve a week left :/. It’s an amazing scholarship and it offers a lot of benefits
