The value of 3 800's.

How impressive is this for top schools (think Gtown Columbia, Brown, Chicago, Penn, NU, maybe HYP). Is it the sort of thing that they just glance over and say, "That's acceptable, let's move on to the rest of the app." Or will it significantly increase chances? Relative to the SAT how important is this?

The scores in question are for WH US and MathII. I thought that it might be important to mention intended major: history (hence the first two tests)

I remember reading somewhere on MIT’s website that an 800 is no different from a 780. I guess it’s great if you got an 800, but it won’t ensure you an automatic acceptance into top colleges, just as getting a 2400 on the SAT won’t.

I’m not an admissions officer so I can’t really speak for them, but I would think that they wouldn’t look at it too much. If you had stellar ECs/essays/recs and you met the benchmark with grades/SATs/SAT IIs, that’s great. If you had virtually no ECs or other activities and just had a 2400, 4.0, 800’s on SAT IIs, and 5’s on all APs, then that would probably be a flat-out rejection. If you did have good ECs/what makes you you/etc and had 3 800s I’m sure it would help at least a /little/ bit.

If you had all D’s throughout your high school career and (out of nowhere) 3 800s then you will receive more attention than others.

I think it’s like a 2400. Great, but it’s not going to push you over the top or anything. Only reassurance is that you can be sure that you won’t be rejected b/c of your test scores.
