Waitlisted as well. Such a shame, considering WashU is/was my first choice, and I did a great deal to make them aware of that. I'm not really hopeful about getting in off the WL, but many of the previous posters are correct: WashU admissions are not indicative of other schools.

Waitlisted:
3.7ish GPA (top 10%)
35 ACT
Great ECs, Hispanic

Well, it doesn't surprise me- I was accepted SCEA to Yale- they must be trying to limit their acceptances to those who actually want to pick WUStL. Well, I highly doubt I'll be taking a spot on their waitlist. It's their loss- I might have actually picked WUStL over some of the schools I applied to, that Ivy included.

^^ and the defense rests its case!!!

So far, we have a Yale acceptee, a Dartmouth likely, and a Columbia likely....

...all waitlisted. bahaha

There are different human beings reading the applications at different schools. This means that an application that may have deeply impressed an admissions officer at Columbia/Dartmouth/Yale may not have the same impact on a WashU admissions officer.

However, judging from the posts it is clear that WashU has waitlisted a large quantity of highly qualified applicants. I'm sure that admissions officers at other top schools will recognize your talents and you will receive better news in the future.

I got waitlisted from WashU, but got into Stanford EA.
my parents'll think I slacked off on my regular decision apps or something... >.>

After reading this thread i'm not feeling so bad about being waitlisted :)

PLEASE TAKE ME BROWN haha

Correction:

Acceptances at Yale and Stanford
Likelies at Dartmouth and Columbia.

All waitlisted by WashU haha

Financial aid may have played a role, though. I'm at the extreme end of the finaid spectrum, with a sup-$4000 EFC.

Oh well, time to play some Hitman or Splinter Cell and relax- it's Spring Break now.

^ Both excellent games. Splinter Cell is one of my faves.

f*** wustl jesus christ

This thread is funny

WashU requires only your common app essay, so perhaps for those who were accepted or received likelys from ivies and got waitlisted, their supplement essays might have strengthened their application.

waitlisted.....argh.
accepted at indiana, iowa, wisconsin, michigan, vanderbilt and likely letter from mt holyoke.
i even spent the summer there taking classes and got all a's.
now i have to wait for 2 whole days for mit to come out.
sniffles.

I'm overqualified.

WashU can kiss my ***. UCHICAGO '13!

"WashU requires only your common app essay, so perhaps for those who were accepted or received likelys from ivies and got waitlisted, their supplement essays might have strengthened their application."

To be fair, Dartmouth required no supplemental essays (and Yale technically didn't either although if you're aiming to get in you better do one).

Everyone just has to chill out. I applied to some Ivies and was really expecting an acceptance from Wash U. The outcome dissappoints me, but I guess they purposely waitlisted overqualified applicants

For those who think it is because admissions is need-aware, I would just like to let you know that I applied for no financial aid or scholorship (I should have) and still got rejected. I have a 1410/1600 SAT, 1/204 class rank, 2210 SAT II; I am a minority (not URM) who travels to the Middle East every summer, involved with a research institute/NPO, have been in a war (wrote a good essay on this), have a good amount of community service, involved in unique extra-curriculars, and play a varsity sport.

I would not say I am overqualified or Ivy League material; but, if admissions was need-aware, I think they would have accepted me.

waitlist is the new cool thing.

if you weren't waitlisted then you aren't cool.

So should I feel bad about being accepted to WUSTL? Since I was accepted with average (for top schools) statistics, should I expect certain disappointment from HYP in a few weeks?

Note: I did not demonstrate any interest other than signing up for the mailing list ages ago and then applying. I have no connections to the university whatsoever.

agreed ^^ :) (about waitlist = cool)
