THE Wharton Thread

dont worry about not having any internships. i didnt have any- none at all, seriously, not even a class or anything. but i got in ED :)

(ps- not a urm/super rich or connected. chinese actually so that probably hurt some...)

took me a while to find this thread, since it's not in the main forum... and I do realize it is 2 in the morning. Thanks to IB, I have to write "interesting" essays to graduate.

Anywho, I'm Zhang (last name only since this is the internet, haha). I am a female Asian from Utah. I don't have a lot of business background on the academic side, but I love learning about global trade and relations. I plan to double major, my 2nd major being International Relations. Hm... Love shopping, politics, traveling, and debate.

That's all for now... haha.

It seems like some people on this thread are afraid to introduce themselves properly because of perverts :P You guys'll be safe when the wharton forum goes up for acceptees sometime in the next couple weeks.

Do you have any idea when that will come out? A link maybe?

http://undergrad.wharton.upenn.edu/classof2010/

Jan 13th - launch of the official forum for ED acceptees

CAS doesnt have one?

so gayyyyyyyyy

i got the wharton packet today. first class mail, shiny paper- really rather fancy i do say.

myopia, I guess this is the CAS equivalent: http://www.college.upenn.edu/introduction/incoming.html

wow. the wharton site is so much more fun than the CAS site...does everyone get to use the studentalk or is it just for the wharton students?

I'll introduce myself... finally. I'm Ray and I'm coming from San Diego. I'm Filipino. I was a H&R Block certified tax-preparer for the 2004 tax season (I can give you some income-tax advice if you need some). I don't have any business background other than the tax preparation (i.e. internships, academic opportunities, clubs etc.). I am planning to double concentrate in Real Estate and Finance. My dream is to become the CEO of my real estate developing firm, mainly developing affordable housing (wrote my Why Penn? essay about this). I'm looking forward to making the next four years fun and unforgettable. Thats pretty much it for now. I'm extremely excited to attend Wharton. Congrats to all of you who were accepted.

Cheers,
Ray

its not even that hard to get into wharton ED

It's interesting how on one site, it says the forum is up on Jan. 13, but when you click on another link, it says Jan. 15, haha... can anyone confirm which is the correct date?

I just got my Wharton packet in the mail and it says the forum will be up on January 13.

Dreaming, what do you mean it's not that hard to get into Wharton? Were you accepted ED?

Finally someone comes forward. Good on you lucky98. Forget about that guy, he's just trying to get us annoyed cuz he's trying to justify why he probably won't get in RD.... not even worth it. Just out of curiosity, anyone thinking of doing study abroad?

oh for sure... either China or Germany.. You?

i'm thinking oxford (even though they require that 3.6 GPA which might be tough in a place like wharton... if i could get most of my PPE requirements done there that'd be cool. plus i have a ton of friends in europe i'd like to visit for a few weeks each over the holidays. The only problem is i might have to cram most of my wharton classes into sophomore and senior year.

hmm, it seems like the majority of you guys already received your wharton packets. I thought they would only send it to you after the release of the RD results. Anyway, does the packet include details on matriculation, dorms, orientation, etc..?

It was only yesterday when i sent out my reply card.

The Wharton packet only has general info about the online forums and Penn Previews. Basically all the info, and probably more info, can be found on the Penn 2010 Wharton Website. They also put a Wharton alumni magazine in there.

About Studying Abroad: For me, it's a great opportunity to explore different places and I am open to it. However, I heard from previous Wharton students who studied business abroad that the quality of education abroad doesn't even compare to the curriculum at Wharton. I'm most likely going to stay at Wharton, but I never know.

if u didnt apply for dual degree program...what is double majorin (getting a second degree) in penn like...easy? hard?

At Wharton, it is not called majoring, but rather concentrating. You have the option of double-concentrating which doesn't mean you get two degrees, it means that you have to concentrations (aka major). You concentrate in two fields withing Wharton. I don't know of double-concentrating's difficulty, but I do know that 30% (estimating, I remember seeing it on Wharton's site) of Wharton Undergrads decide to double concentrate.
