<p>Anyone with experience with Afrikan Heritage house?Is it exclusively Africans/african-americans or is there a good mix? Any thoughts on Kahn and Third World would also be good.thanks</p>
<p>It’s illegal to segregate by race/ethnicity at Oberlin or any other college or university in America. According to my daughter, some of the people that choose to live in Afrikan Heritage House are neither black nor of African heritage. Also known as Lord-Saunders, the Afrikan Heritage House has it’s own dining room. My daughter has eaten dinner there several times. She enjoys the food, which she said is different than the fare offered at other campus dining rooms. Whenever the mood strikes her, I guess, she dines there. She doesn’t know anything about Kahn or Third World.</p>
<p>One issue with Lord-Saunders is it’s south campus location. Almost everything she needs is on north campus.</p>
<p>I lived in Kahn this year, and its main advantage is that it is a brand new building. The environmental theme is not really present in the community. Each hall composts, which is nice, and lights in common areas have light switches that can be set to on, off, or motion sensor settings to save energy, but that is about it. They are still working out some of the kinks (air conditioning/heat malfunctions frequently, the basement flooded multiple times) and we frequently saw repair people fixing various problems with the building. The way the halls are set up is really conducive to building a community, which is good, although the downside is a lack of privacy when walking through the hall/common area. All in all, I liked it, and was glad i chose to live there.</p>
<p>My D lives in German House but loves to eat at the African American House. Says the food is great.</p>
