Theory on the Statuses (Formulated by Quixotic Rick and I)

^ In past years USC has sent the denials last, around the 2nd week of April. It would be a big change if they sent them out at same time as acceptances.
But anything is possible.
So far my D has not heard of a single denial yet at her school, where a lot of students submit USC applications.

My status changed to the admission committee one right now.. so deny+ huh? Blah!

It depends. If you were stuck in preliminary review for a long time, and weren’t asked for grades it is probably a denial. If you were asked to submit grades and it went to “we are reviewing your application” it could mean acceptance.

I never had the preliminary review status. I had the “We have received and are currently reviewing…” status. I’m also an international and I don’t think any other internationals were asked to submit grades.

Zzz.. just wait it out I guess.. not too much longer..

“It depends. If you were stuck in preliminary review for a long time, and weren’t asked for grades it is probably a denial. If you were asked to submit grades and it went to “we are reviewing your application” it could mean acceptance.”

What classifies “a long time”? I was in prelim review from 1/7 - 2/27 and I was never asked for mid-year grades, although I did send 'em. I applied before the scholarship deadline, too.

same question ^^^ i was in prelim on 1/11 and changed to in review on 3/7..i also applied scholarship deadline..and wasn’t asked for midyears but sent them anyway..is it possible that they didn’t ask for my midyear report because i sent it before they were going to ask, so that just left it at prelim?

so whats the deal with midyears? are most people asked to send them or no? any theories on this one? hahaha

i think so but im not sure..if u applied for scholarships and didnt get it, the letter telling u that says something about being aware that they may ask for your midyears, and some people were also sent a letter being asked for them.

honestly, i don’t think the statuses are all that accurate. my friend got accepted in the last wave and his status still says “we have received your midyear…”

^I like your Username

i called today… asked if they’ve got my midyear grades and they told me they did. then i asked when i would hear back and she said anywhere from now until first week of april…

At least she didn’t say “First Week of April” because that would probably mean i was rejected…

My D received a letter in the mail dated Feb. 8th asking for her first semester grades. Did anyone get this letter? She was told to submit her grades directly to the application website. Her status page still says under review dated Feb. 15th.
Thanks,
Bob

Nope. But I did get asked for them when I got the letter saying I didn’t get one of the scholarships. I had already submitted them, though.

yeah i got the letter too…i believe everyone asked to submit their midyears got this letter.

symphonyofsound, your friend got acceptance even with the status ‘we received fall grades?’ that means i still have a chance! does anyone else know people who’ve had statuses like this and still got in?

I still think u guys are way overanalyzing the status lol.

taiwaneseterror i agree with you completely, but i won’t deny that i have fallen into the bunch lol. to be honest, i would not have even considered that the statuses meant a single thing until i started reading this forum. but, i’ll admit, i’m overanalyzing toooo

Alright so it seems as though not many people who have applied to one of the more selective programs has posted anything on here, so if you guys would like to ponder on the stats of a film applicant here ya go…

Applied for Film Production and Writing for Film
Location: NJ
Gender: Male
GPA: 3.7
SATs: 1830, 12 on essay (550 verbal, 630 Math, 650 Writing..I don’t like standardized tests)
ECs: Wide range in sports, film, music, religious youth groups, and work

As for my status… I had prelim initially, then it switched to “we have received the fall grades we requested” on 2/6… it finally changed on 3/12 to “in review”

So I don’t know what to make of this. I have no idea where i fall in the theory, and whether or not the film part will play a role. My guess is that the majority of film applicants will find out in the last batch because there are so many kids applying for very few spots. Also, they have to read a ridiculous amount of creative essays… I guess we’ll just have to see…

oh yeah I did not receive a specific letter saying they wanted my mid year grades either.. only in the scholarship letter… i submitted them voluntarily anyway

The sun’ll come out, Tomorrow! Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow,
There’ll be sun!

Just thinkin’ about, Tomorrow, Clears away the cobwebs,And the sorrow
'Til there’s none!

When I’m stuck a day, That’s gray, And lonely,I just stick out my chin
And Grin,
And Say,
Oh!

The sun’ll come out,Tomorrow! So ya gotta hang on 'Til tomorrow
Come what may!

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya Tomorrow!
You’re always a day
Away…
