There aren't any stupid questions, right? How do I win "awards"?

I was just perusing the pdf version of last years common application when I came upon the awards section. I feel as if every other part of my app is just fine, but I'm completely lost about these academic distinctions. The only one I can think of right now is that I'm an AP Scholar, and that's really it. My school doesn't do anything significant in terms of recognizing academic talent, and so I've never tried to pursue it.

So now, I ask all you CC'ers, what kinds of awards do YOU have? And do you think there is any chance of me earning anything from now until Decemeber when applications start rolling out? Have anything specific in mind you would like to share? Please do!

Have you participated in any type of competition extracurricular? Sports, FBLA/DECA, HOSA, JSA, Model UN, Comp Civics, etc.

What about essay contests or publications?

Well, it says “academic distinctions or honors”, does that extend to sports and such. I’ve participated in IHSA debate, as well as Scholastic Bowl, and Varsity Tennis, but I haven’t really won anything major.

i’ve won big ****: siemens competition, intel sts, science competitions basically, AIME LOl, national merit. successful ■■■■■ is successful

Well, not what I was looking for >_>

Does anyone have anything else to add?

Perhaps we can consult Charlie Sheen. Lol sorry I had to.

Does your school have an honor roll or perfect attendance awards? Sadly it is very had to earn any award in that short of time. Are you in NHS or NJHS or any other honor society? It depends on the award from the sport. If you got the Most on time award to practice it’s not impressive but it’s still an award.

I have Distinguished Honor Roll (no grades below a 93) every marking period in my high school career, a Ranatra Fusca (award through OotM for super creativity in our solution), a West Best (school award that can be awarded for anything from good effort to being super awesome), 1st chair in a bunch of bands, NHS stuff, NJHS stuff, Relay For Life team placed 1st and Gold, helped work on a float that placed 3rd, and a few other little awards.
