Ap English Exam to fulfill IGETC-1A-English Composition
If i use an ap score on an ap english exam that i passed on to apply to igetc for the first half of the english area, does that mean i only need to take one english course to transfer to a UC?

The reason I'm asking this is because at the assessment center, the person in charge said a lot of people passed out of the english area with an ap exam, but when they went to berkeley, the counselors there said they wouldn't accept that the ap english score and they had to take the english class again.

I've been researching this for igetc, and it says that ap score can be applied by just looking at this website: Using Advanced Placement to Satisfy UC Eligibility and IGETC (2008-09)

I'm applying soon and I wanted to know if it would be a disadvantage to use that ap score, or should i take the class just for insurance.

The problem i have with this situation is that if you look on the ap score credit on berkeley's page it says that english comp will not be cleared, but for igetc it says its ok for general education in letters and sciences. This is a really technical question, so if anyone who successfully transferred can verify that this info is accurate, please reply.

i got a reply from some people that say they can, but i don't want to take an extra english class two years down the line just to finish my requirements

I wasn't a transfer but I know for sure that a 3 on an English Language AP exam only gets you placed into Eng Comp 3. It doesn't pass you out. It just means that you don't have to take the English placement exam. A score of 4 or 5 gets you placed out of that class.

Regardless of that, you would still need TWO writing II classes to fullfill the english requirement to graduate from UCLA.

well this is for transfers. for transfers we have igetc which is a way for community college students to finish uc ge requirements by completing this course pattern. Under this it says Ap english lang or lit could be used to pass the first level of english, but i want clarification

hey could somebody help me clarify this. it's about ap credits too. I'm too a c.c. student who wants to tranfer to ucla and i'm following the IGETC. I got some Ap credits from spanish language(score of 5) and spanish literature(score of 4)

so what i want to know if by using the scores does the school clears you that requirement? some of you are saying that they only use ap credits to advance you, but not give you credit for that particular course.

also when using AP credits do we report the scores to our c.c or just to the university we're planning to transfer?
