I just found out that I am waitlisted. I have shown interrest but my stats are low. I am accepting my spot on the waitlist and possibly will visit. Does anyone know how many people in the past have been on the waitlist and later accepted? Thank you!

Well, I looked in a book a while ago, and it said that no one was accepted off Pitzer's wait list (I think they were stats for '05-'06). However, if their acceptance rate has dropped so low this year, they'll probably have a decent amount of people coming off the wait list, because as much as the school is growing in prestige and popularity, I don't think it's proportional to a mid-20s acceptance rate. If they have a smallish class, they'll probably take a fair number off the list, so I wouldn't give up if you really want to go there.

what's this year acceptance rate?

The website says that the 05-06 acceptance rate was 37%, so if previous posters are correct, then this year's should be around 27%. I have no idea whether or not that's actually correct.

Another very random fact/guess, but Pitzer is suffering from a pretty bad housing crunch, so they may really be trying to lower class-size, or at the very least, to under-admit and then take people off the wait-list. Anything to prevent over-admitting. No idea whether or not this is actually the case, but it would make sense and might account for the significant drop, if it actually occurred.

Student15 - Pitzer has had a housing crunch. However, three new dorm buildings will be ready for fall of 2007. This will ease the housing problem considerably. I am told that all of the new freshman will be housed in the new dorms.

One fact that might contribute to a lower acceptance rate is Pitzer initiated binding early decision for the first time this year. I don't know how many applied for or were accepted for early decision. A significant number of early decision admittances will dramatically decrease the acceptance rate for the regular pool.

In response to a couple posts above, I'm getting my statistic of 25.9% from various (credible) administrators around the Pitzer campus (I'm a Pitzer student).

Unscientifically, I would attribute the significant drop to the admissions office' efforts to getting the word out about Pitzer, not a housing crunch.

yah no way its the housing problem; they are building three new housing dorms

Well, scratch that theory, then. Was just a guess, and I've managed to miss the construction.

i think every college is gettin harder now- maybe there are too many people applying?

If you're currently waitlisted at Pitzer and receive a letter of acceptance, please post to this thread.

Four people from my #2 son's high school class have been accepted at Pitzer, but his best friend is sweating out the waitlist

Wow, a lot of people are waitlisted this year!

I don't know of anyone who has been rejected either.

I hope that they will have to take people off of the waitlist because the more I look at the college, the more I love it!

Never heard from Pitzer, even though we live one city away. No acceptance/rejection/waitlist. I even emailed to ask if they'd sent anything. Our mail is notoriously bad in this city. No reply. sigh

A phone call to admissions wouldn't hurt.

well congratulation to all accepted to Pitzer. Pitzer sent a letter congratulating us. "they were only able to offer admission to 26% of the application pool- the most selective admission cycle in the College's history"

ilabrucious1423 - I'm in the same position as you! I suppose from this point on, we're rivals...

I have an AP CalcAB fall term exam sitting in front of me as well as an AP Bio exam both of which I scored relatively high on. I also took courses at Johns Hopkins this summer... would sending these extra resources benefit me at this point?

It believe that showing them that you are still interested and sending them even more reasons to accept you would be potentially beneficial.

Best of luck Gunadic! Hopefully we will both have the chance to head to California for college next year!

If Pitzer doesn't rank the waitlist (which I seem to recall being the case, but don't know for sure), then it seems like it couldn't possibly hurt, as long as you don't overdo it.

Whats the definition of over-doing it? I think I'm going to submit my 5th Marking Period grades as their on the up and up.

Seems perfectly fair. Letter of continued interest, updated transcript, perhaps even a new rec if it adds something, mention of any significant new awards or achievements...I'd guess that all of that is just fine.

There's a foggy but very intuitive line between demonstrating continued interest and just plain stalking. It's not a fine one. Don't worry. Just refrain from sending them every single graded assignment that you receive, new letters from every teacher and three of your neighbors and your kindergarten assistant and your mom, a new essay, and a daily reminder that you're still interested... :p

Some quick replies from someone in the know (sorry, can't tell you how).
-Increase of 10% in applications
-Went to Early Decision this year, which would explain the lower acceptance rate of 26%, which is a decrease of about 11% from last year
-They don't rank the waitlist, but do keep track of interest from students. Letters are the best way to go.
-There are more students going to college in general and students apply to more schools than ever.
-The new buildings will add 138 beds and housing will be available to everyone.
-Incoming class sizes are not decreasing, nor are they growing.
-The quality of applicants continues to grow.
-They are looking for fit, so social responsibility is good. Obviously they want good grades, but are looking for more than just that.
