Thieveries @ A&M

I was just wondering if there are frequent cases of stolen possessions. My two main concerns are leaving my bike outside (but still locking it tho) and leaving my computer in my dorm.

According to my friends @ TAMU…bike theft is the #1 crime in College Station o.O

LOL, yeah…
Your dorm should be safe though, just make sure your roommate isn’t a total ******bag, and you trust him.

ohh ok thx
so should I bring my bike or not? I want 2 be able 2 get around a lot quicker since I am not bringing my car.

You probably should if your classes are kinda far and consecutive classes (I have 3 in a row). Just get a good lock, and you should be fine.

On my sister’s first day of graduate school at A&M, she got to her car in the parking lot and realized she’d left her purse in the ladies restroom in a building all the way across campus. She raced back in a panic and found her purse on the counter where she’d left it with a note propped up against it that read: “Aggies don’t steal”. She said at UT (where she’d gone for her undergrad degree) her purse would have been gone in a minute.

PositiveThinking, that is amazing. I’ve heard that slogan, nice to know the mean it!

I’m going to bump this thread since I’m finally back on this board…

My bike was stolen over Winter break whilst I locked it outside my apartment…YEAH…

my bike was stolen in 1982! actually, it turned out to be borrowed. someone just rode it over to another building. i found it a few days later.

Maybe you should get a chain too. Even when bikes are locked, people take parts. I don’t know about College Station, but this happens all the time where I live. If they can’t get to the whole bike they go for the wheels.

I got to TAMU and I’ve never seen a locked bike with wheels stolen. There are bikes all over the place. I wouldn’t bring a brand new top of the line one here, but I think that it’s a pretty safe thing to do. The reason bike thefts might be the number one crime is that College Station doesn’t have much crime at all. People will put bikes into trees as a practical joke if you don’t lock it though. I’m very forgetful and lose things everywhere. My purse was turned in at Barnes and Noble, my wallet was turned into me in class, a girl in one of my classes kept my umbrella and gave it to me the next time, my drivers license was returned to me over facebook, etc. I’d say that you’re pretty safe here. :)
