Thankfully this morning, minutes before my dad was about to send a check to Andover, he received a call from the Lawrenceville admission office informing him that I was taken off the wait list as a day student. Lawrenceville was my first choice and my dad accepted the offer right there (which is what I would have told him to do).

Now, I want to know more about the school like what classes are good to take, what are good sports to try and so on.

Please note, I was accepted as a day student however there may be boarding room for me if a student lville is waiting for declines the offer.

That’s awesome! We’ll be Lawrentians together.

Here’s what I understood from revisit day.

-Sports to try: Well, Lawrenceville does have squash in the winter, so you’ll do that one semester (judging by your user name). Crew is a sport my tour guide seemed to be fond of, although he wasn’t in it due to the time commitment, 30 minutes of driving to the lake and back, etc. The house sports are really fun, as well.

-Classes depend on your level. I don’t know what you enjoy, so I can’t tell you what to take, but L’ville has a very flexible academic advisory system, where you can really try anything you want. Take a look at the course listings and syllabus to get an understanding of what really you might want to take.

@mrnephew awesome dude so excited! Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, no problem. It’s gonna be fun.

@mrnephew what grade are you going to be? I’m going to be a freshman.

I’d like to add a /slight/ adjustment to @mrnephew’s note on academics. Since you’ll be a freshman, the classes you can take are much more constrained. As in, you’ll be taking a math, a science (I think every freshman takes bio), a history (there’s one history for the whole grade), a language, and the freshman english class. That leaves you with only one more block to fill. Throughout the years, as you fulfill requirements, you can take more interesting classes.

Sorry. I’m going to be an incoming sophomore, and the rigid schedule was something I took deeply into consideration.

I’ll be a sophomore. I guess I was addressing the schedule flexibility towards us older people, sorry.

I getcha. I mean, we still have pretty strict schedules, though. L’ville is getting rid of the whole honors program thing, so it’s basically the same for us, except different classes. The only things that change are language level, math level, and that one last block for electives.

Well, we have a set schedule, but we can manipulate between levels.

Like if we feel one class is too easy or too difficult, we can move up and down accordingly.

But didn’t they get rid of different levels of english, science, and history?

Or am I just hopelessly confused.

In the course catalogue, it lists only one course available for third formers in english, science, and history?

English yes, but for science and history, they told me I could move up and down according to how I felt challenged.

Oh wow ok cool. What are the different levels, if you remember them?

Well, the history they’re doing now is called forces that shaped the modern world, but I found that it was equivalent to the history class I’m taking now. So someone told me I could move up to U.S. or have a free period to take another elective.

Ahhh! I’m so excited! I’m going to Lville for 10th grade as well. I’ve been wearing my shirt from revisit day a ton. God. No input just want to share my excitement with you guys :D!

Haha, you’re not alone in wearing that shirt a lot.

And I’m pretty excited too. Here, I’ll create a separate L’ville thread.

Make that two separate L’ville threads! :)

(I understand it was a mistake.)

Can a current Lawrentian please comment on the following:

1) Any particularly good teachers for Grade 9 that are worth trying to get?
2) Any particularly bad teachers for Grade 9 to avoid?
3) What is the deal with the summer reading list?
4) What is the grading scale (standard 4.0 or 100 point?)

^ 3) A summer reading list is not unique to L’ville.
