So, i've never been on an overnight visit before, but I want to know what happens off schedule.... Are there any parties? Is there someplace I should visit that would give me a good sense of the school? Where do I absolutely HAVE to go visiting Chicago (keeping in mind some time restrictions)?

Just follow the program they provide for you, it’ll be fun. As for parties, they’re usually there but when i prospied last year some frat specifically barred prospies from entering if i remember right. But chances are you’ll end up in someone’s room drinking, which is what happened with my group of prospies at least.

The scheduled events, if there are any, should keep you busy during ‘reasonable’ hours. If you’re interested in a party, I’m sure students will help you find one. Chicago is all about the classroom; visit one in live action.

I’m not certain, but I have grave doubts. This would be a fearful liability issue. However, you can likely find some students willing to travel downtown with you (especially if you pay for a trip to Starbucks or something).

so i forgot to fax in the permission/medical release form and won’t be able to until tomorrow…one day before the overnight program. they wanted it four days before, is this going to be a problem? will i still be able to stay overnight?

^^^^ Thanks for reminding me!!! I need to do that ASAP! (I;m going on the 22-23, though)

I think they’re wanting to make a good impression on you. If you’re really nice and apologetic, then you might be able to sneak it through. just be really super nice and talk about how much you love the school and are oh so excited to stay overnight. being nice goes a long way. And they want to help you.

I actually contacted a current student, so I know who I’ll be staying with on the overnight. yay! I highly recommend doing it.

ahhhhhhhhhh thanks haha. i hope im not completely screwed cause i got plane tickets and everything. i know absolutely no one at uchicago so i hope everything goes alright

you’ll be fine. I would make sure to fax it in so they get it asap. And, even if you can’t do an official overnight, you can still visit campus. Hey, you might be able to get on an unofficial overnight. Remember, they’re trying to convince you to go there, so they’ll try to be nice. :)

It sounds like they’re supposed to show you a good time!

us too mathmom! Form was faxed this morning with a follow up call that all was set. (I am not in charge of the logistics of this trip, so I didn’t read the fine print!)

looks like everything worked out! just wondering, is there stuff for the parents to do during the day? or is there only the one reception in the afternoon?

alexis, that’s great! There are a bunch of presentations that the parents can go to with you during the day. It sounds like there are at least three different tours… I’m planning on ditching my mom after check in for overnights (we have family in the area, so it’s cool). idk if I want to meet with her friday or try to stay in the dorms another night. opinions on this? Are people cool about letting you sleep on the floor or are things a bit more tightly controlled? I really don’t know how these things are done… I want to spend as much time as possible on campus, and I want to visit a couple different dorms… I just don’t want to annoy people.

kitkatkatie – I checked with the admission’s office about a possible second overnight (I was thinking they same as you – my son could check out more than one dorm, get another view of the school). They told me no – only one overnight. So if you stay overnight, it will be unofficial – but it is a good idea. My son will be staying with a friend who has an apartment in the area.
