Think I just blew my shot at Fordham

I'm a high school junior and fordham is my dream school. Took the SAT's for the first time in Jan. and got the results yesterday. I'm devasted. I've never been a great test taker so i've been working with a tutor and have been taking practice tests.

I've always been very weak in Math so I was really counting on my reading/writing scores to help (i'd enter as an english major, so hoping they would take that into consideration when looking at my math scores). On the practice tests I've been scoring between 700-750 on reading/writing. I don't know how, but I bombed it. Got a 10 on the essay so I have no idea what happened on the rest of the writing section. I'm so embarrasased. The math score was of course, lousy.

I'll finish HS with about 6AP and very good grades in all of them, and I expect no worse than 4's on the tests. Will also come out with 2 languages. My GPA will probably be a bit low compared to other fordham freshmen (current cumulative GPA is an UW 90.5), so I ws hoping the SAT would help balance that out. I think I'll have decent EC's.

I know I can take the test again but I prepared so hard for this and wasn't even that nervous (for me, anyway) i don't see how i will be able to replicate my practice scores on the real thing - especially knowing i'll be under more pressure to perform much better on the next one.

Fordham is getting so many apps there's know way i'll get in.

Thanks for letting me vent.

My son was admitted EA to Fordham this year.Don’t give up on Fordham. If you look at the class profile for the class of 2014 on the Fordham website they have the G.P.A. listed as 92 so your G.P.A. is really not that far off. Your still have several chances to increase your SAT and time to even increase your G.P.A. Your APs are a plus and Fordham will look at your ECs and essay. We know students who have been accepted into Fordham with similar G.P.A.s to yours and their SATs while good were not close to 800s. So continue to try to focus on your work and just do your best.
Best of Luck

Try the ACT. People usually do well on one or the other

What exactly did you get on your SATs? I was accepted to Fordham EA this year and I had pretty average SAT scores.

Trust me, with all of those APs, the good GPA, the excellent CR and W score, and a decent score in Math, you’ll be fine for Fordham EA. I got into Fordham EA this year, and I didn’t take any APs until this year.

January of junior year is very early to take the SATs. And it is also way to early to give up on any of your “dream schools”. Keep your head up, keep working with your tutor, keep taking those practice tests. and keep your grades up in school. Remember with the SATs schools take your best score in each section from all of your tests. Good luck.

Thanks for everyone’s support. I really appreciate it.
