I know I know, I should be putting this on the Chances board, but I'm pretty sure many won't know the answer to how much scholarship money I'd receive with these scores....so chance me for some merit money :D

also i am instate.
please tell me how much merit you would think i'll get
thanks!!

You definately won't get a full or majority ride, but I'd say you would be eligible for a few thousand $. To be honest with you, your numbers are good, but they just aren't high enough to get really significant merit aid.

But isn't my ACT score high enough for the money? Or is it my GPA? because I'm taking the hardest classes possible and it's really hard to get an A in all of them. Looking back at the 2011 acceptances, a lot of them had lower ACT scores and got full tuition, so what sets me apart from them?

You're right, I didn't factor in the AP classes when I looked at your UW GPA. Brain fart, sorry. Yeah, that 34 ACT will definately look good along with your class rank. I would say you have a decent shot at some serious money. Ignore my previous post, I kinda rushed through it, I really don't know what I was thinking.

yoshi, a few years ago, my son applied with similar numbers, activities and awards, and he got a few thousand. Some have speculated that the chancellors scholarships seem to not go to in-state applicants. Or maybe it has to do with early application, or your major, or ????

Haha that's okay Pat, I agree it was late at night.
LKF, when did your son apply? Was it around October/November or later on? Because the way the do merit money, I THINK, is by a first come first serve basis. So if a kid has a 2300 SAT and he applies in the summer, he has a better chance of getting a scholarship than a kid with 2300 SAT who applies in, say February.

But I don't know...adcoms are pretty wierd...

He applied over Christmas break. I don't know how beneficial earlier application is, but I will recommend to my daughter to apply as early as possible. It couldn't hurt.

I never thought about date of application affecting outcome, but that might just be a consideration, esplly considering it's a state-supported school with limited funds to dispense. My D applied in October, was admitted in November and got her first scholarship in December. So by Christmas break there was already a fair amount of money already given away. From experience now with two college students, I'd say the earlier the better if you want scholarship money.

Yeah, seeing from the 2011 acceptance thread, a lot of people who got good scores (around 1400s SAT) and who got a full tuition offer with these scores applied in the summer or October.

I'm planning to apply in mid-October or the first week of November.
DO you think that'll be close enough to be offered a full tuition or a $10K scholarship?

One of the reasons is because I haven't taken the SATII Math II yet (kindof was approximating my score, sorry I forgot to put that it was an approximation)

Do you think I should apply now, even though I'll be taking another SATII later on? Can I even do that?

I'd fill out an application as soon as it's available. IMO, Pitt seems to be more generous w/merit $ with OOS - which is true of many state universities.

definitely apply now. you'll have a much better shot at getting money considering apps are rolling, so the sooner you apply, the sooner you get a decision. i had a 2030/2100 SAT and a 4.3 weighted GPA, along with service, EC's and a few AP's and didn't get any money from Pitt. The kids who get the most money are usually val/sal and often seem to be OOS too. It seems to be somewhat random for smaller tuition amounts, but who knows. I'm thinking about doing a work study program or working for the technology dept., which will pays your room & board fee if you work for them.

oh man, i have heard that OOS gets more preference over the instate kids; what were your son/daughter's stats, weenie. thats weird if he had good scores and got little merit money...

but to the OP: i think you have a great shot at it too

It's hard to say what factors make the biggest impact. Our student is OOS, 1490 V/M SAT, all AP/IB/Honors classes, top 3% of class of about 560, committed to 3 activities for many years, part-time job, no awards to speak of, applied probably by Jan 1 maybe even as late as Jan 15. Results: Full OOS tuition/applied for Chancellor's but no interview/Honors College acceptance. At least 3 other students from same school received the above. Some applied sooner. Pitt is not typically on the radar for kids from our school. Hopefully our student will have good reports and will spread the word.

Thanks for the help, I'll apply ASAP....
any more thoughts? do you think i stand a good chance for getting some $$ for being **instate **with a good ACT score, bad SAT score, good GPA, and the sal. of our class?
