Why is it that most of the posts in this forum seems to be coming from superprivileged students who attend high schools with api ranks between 8 to 10.

I hope not many students become discouraged due to the fact that they perform lower than the average poster here, i for one wasn't discouraged, even though my stats are lower than the most of you guys, it kinda motivated me, (got accepted to cal), its just that it's pretty discouraging if you're brain washed to see the real world in this forum (my first impression of cc)

please don't delete my post, i just want to share my view with all of you

most kids on this site are over-achievers with nothing better to do. they like to show off their stats and ask questions with obvious answers. that said, most of the people here are very driven. some one who doesn't care wouldn't bother to spend their time researching colleges.

this is true, and the kids on here may seem like superstars in comparison to you, but remember that almost all of the kids on here are the best of the best, or else they wouldn't be here! These students have worked so hard that they need some reassurance from people that they don't even know that their hard work was really worth it.

i completely agree!!! wow, i came to this website after sending out all of my apps. and then when i say this website, i was so sure i'd get rejected from all of my schools. i mean, i didn't win any major awards, all my ecs were mediocre (in fact i didn't even do ecs senior year). i had a sh-tload of B's. my SAT score was mediocre at best (although my ACT was stellar). i did some community service, but not to the level of everyone else... but lo and behold, i got into 10 of my 11 schools (the majority of them were top 25 schools, and i even got into 2 ivies). so yeah, most of the kids on this site are just insane.

Interesting point. I guess my reason for posting...is that I am completely insecure about getting into a 'great' college. I mean, I am quite an average student at my school... and I'm just afraid that should colleges compare me to students within my school, I'd be doomed for life. I ask others to help me simply because many of you have had experiences with the college application process. It's wonderful to get some 'real' advice/ 'real' results. And, I came from a fairly crappy ass middle school. My parents make less than 30,000 smackaroos a year. Of course I was not as prepared for an elite private school as many of my peers. But I have worked my butt off to improve... and... I don't know.... this response is getting long.. BUT... yea, many students at this site scare me. Like SCARE me. Their ec's are excellent. Their GPAs are near perfect. Their SAT scores... ahh! And they're worried?! Good lord....

haha im prety scared too luckychild. I didn't have much to do with the SAT II's until i joined this forum. before i made this acct i was a longtime lurker, and it amazed me how many people got in the high 750+'s on all their SAT II's TT

in my school, most people think I am a math genius and one of the best students. In reality, my gpa is below 90. It's not that I couldn't get above 90 if I tried, but I just don't have a good work ethic. My SAT wasn't too shabby, 2100, and I have pretty good ECs. But I keep feel like I am going to be held back because of my gpa.

looking back at my freshman year, those classes were so damn easy! I should have had a 95 gpa that year with a little work, but I never did my hw

I'm always discouraged by the
"intel finalist, National Merit Finalist, (whatsoever privileged awards)"
"SAT 2400 SATII xxx800 , yyy800, zzz800, etc"
"AP scholar"
"(a list of 10 pages of ECs)"

My freshman class is the best I've ever done... and it goes to the absolute minimum in the sophomore... I try to salvage my GPA in Junior year, and I succeed.

yeah, whenever i come here i try to wonder how the national average for the SAT is under 2000. and then i remember that this is only a small small small small portion of the country. very small indeed.

i can't give you a definitive answer, but if by top you mean the top 25 schools in the country, then probably 15-30%. yeah that's a pretty big margin, but i have no clue. judging by what i see most kids say this is what i figure. then again, if you go to the alphabetical listing of colleges, you'll find that there's a wider range of scores for some of the smaller schools. i guess most people just check the ivies so they get a false impression about CC. but i still think that most people here are over-achievers.
