This might be a silly question....

OK, this might be a dumb question, but it has really been bugging me.

I just graduated from high school, and was crazy involved in activities. (I was in cheer, band, orchestra, DI, and 6 choir ensembles.) Literally half of my wardrobe is made up of tshirts, sweatshirts, track jackets, etc, from these activities. Do people in college frequently wear high school clothing, or is that considered weird? I feel like it could be awkward, but I seriously need almost a whole new wardrobe if I can't wear that stuff... Please help!!!

I’m going to be a junior in fall and my wardrobe hasn’t changed much from when I was in high school. Don’t worry about what you wear, really. No one’s gonna care because it’s not high school (well except if you wear saggy pants, but even in high school, there are people who hate that).

That’s not a silly question. I actually wondered this a bit myself going in. I wouldn’t say they are frequently worn, but I definitely see it enough though and I would say it isn’t considered weird. I think when it comes down to it people are a lot more accepting in college about what people wear (depending on where you go I guess) or really just don’t care at all. I wear high school stuff every once and a while. If you want to wear that stuff, definitely go for it.

One rule: don’t wear your letter jacket if you have one.

That’s the only absolute. Other than that, I think it’s not a big deal really. You can wear whatever you want. I would personally say I only really see high school clothing on OBVIOUS freshmen (which if you don’t mind looking that way, it’s fine) or otherwise lots of people wear high school stuff at like the gym.

I wouldn’t say it’s really common though, and you’ll acquire a lot of shirts and stuff (many of them free, lol) from just being in college. If it doesn’t bother you then it’s a non-issue. Except the letter jacket, since they’re inherently kind of show-offish and high school is nothing to brag about in college, ever.

I would try to avoid things that are blatantly high school if possible.

I’m a bit worried about this too. I wasn’t even in THAT many activities, but my school is really big on t-shirts for some reason. Quite a few of my CLASSES came out with t-shirts. Hell, I’m wearing my Physics t-shirt right now. I don’t think it matters too much if you wear them occasionally, but wearing them all the time would probably seem odd. Maybe try to use some them as pajamas or something?

wearing highschool jackets and shirts just screams FRESHMAN

Ok seriously now, if people are going to talk down to you because you’re wearing certain types of clothes they need to grow the **** up. Leave that judgmental ******** in high school. If people are going to give you crap about what you wear, don’t deal with them. You’ll find your friends who like you for who you are.

I wore my volleyball sweatshirt frequently-- it was the warmest sweatshirt I had, I would have worn it no matter what it said on it. It wasn’t the sort of thing I saw super frequently, but definitely from time to time and it’s not a big deal.

I actually liked to see people wearing hs gear from the local schools since I’m from the area myself, it’s a good conversation starter. I made a good friend in a class once because they were wearing sweatpants from my boyfriend’s small private school, so I struck up a conversation to see if they knew each other.

I would avoid shirts from actual high school classes more than I’d avoid sports teams. But I wouldn’t wear anything like that.

I wear my high school stuff all the time…

…when I was a FRESHMAN

Don’t wear a letter jacket. That screams D bag.

Try to keep it generic, like city activities ir groups or whatever. Not stuff that has your high school name plastered all over it.

I saw one kid wearing a “I survived honors english 9 shirt”… I was like what the hell. I at first thought it was funny than realized it was dumb.

Of course I didn’t say anything. I don’t care what other people wear (except girls that wear yoga pants. I don’t get it. You know from behind you might as well be naked right?) and I don’t care about what over people think of my clothing, I hardly care about my own clothing.

I think I brought a high school blood drive t shirt last year

NEVER wear your letter jacket. Don’t let your entire wardrobe consist of High school shirts but a few aren’t that big of a deal. Personally I left all my high school shirts at home and now that i’m back for the summer i’ve put them away for good in a trunk where I keep old stuff. Memories and all. If you’re not the type of person who wears Hollister and stuff like that then you should buy a few of your college school clothes.

maybe a little is fine, but really, if you want to wear it, then it’s fine. Probably depends where you go whether people are immature and tease people about clothes.

lol

Sent from my iPhone

As long as you don’t wear apparel from other college visits, I think you’re fine to wear whatever. T-shirts that are good to work out in are useful.

LOL I wear my high school sweatshirts all the time in college, but that’s usually for days when I’m just lounging around/studying or don’t have any other clean sweatshirts.

I don’t even notice what other people wear most of the time. I mean we have other things to worry about you know? Plus you can’t be as bad as the kid who shows up in his pajamas for every single exam!

OH and the girls that wear leggings. . .so their butt is basically just out there for everyone to ogle. Don’t do that. But whatever people think, legging girl and pajama guy will definitely keep the attention off you.

You’ll most likely get plenty of free shirts the first few weeks and more as the year progresses from your college. My university had a day that you could trade high school shirts for college shirts, but I unfortunately left all my HS shirts at home since I refused to wear them. That may be because I have little to no pride in my high school.

That said, I don’t think it is necessarily weird to wear high school cloths. I know plenty people who wore high school cloths from time to time.
