bing. i know all of us waitlisted people shouldnt be bitter, its not going to do anything, right? but i think we all felt we deserved an acceptance more than someone with lower stats and scores that DID get in. i personally think washu admits its very very very best applicants and skips a little, waitlists them, admits, them waitlists, then rejects. sorta like a layer cake you know? maybe if i had taken the time to make a trip over there, i live in kansas city, they might have thought i was a little more serious and my decision MAY have been different, but oh well. i just hope the other schools that i like realize that i didnt fly half way across the country because im rich, im not.
also-bing, dont make yourself out to be so high and mighty. yeah, youre a washu freshman, good for you. and i know your school is good, i know someone who turned down harvard for it. of course you love your school, youd probably feel the same way about almost any other top 25 school if you had ended up there. we have every right to be bitter, its a great school and we missed out on a killer 4 years, remember?

be dissapointed, but not bitter. sure i was dissapointed last year when i got waitlisted at harvard, bit i wasn't bitter. i realized what happened happened for a reason and i didn't try to analyze why i didn't get admitted. and i moved on end of story. wash u's admission policies are not all about high grades, good scores and "better" stats. believe me, wash u is MORE than that and you have to be a great, passionate and dynamic person on top of stats to gain admission. and one way wash u finds these type of people is from enthusiam and interest in the school. i interviewed, visited 3 times, applied for 4 scholarships and called the admissions office for questions. my stats were not spectacular, but wash u looks for personality, not just a drone who can crunch numbers well, expecting the world to bow down to them without putting forth extended effort. so i'm not high and mighty, i'm just realistic.
I <3 WUSTL.

You are all forgetting those intangibles that can make or break an application. Schools like Wash want smarts, but they want other things also.

Maybe the reason you all got waitlisted is because you are all identical. Remember, if two applicants are identical, only one, or maybe none of them gets in. I'm sure WashU has plenty of 1560-1600 SAT's to choose from.

but not 1250's...!!!:D

or 1370s!!:D

or 1490s!! :D

we are pitiful, arent we???

Ok, so let me get this straight, Bing...you ended up going to WashU because you couldn't get in to an Ivy? That's what I thought. Enjoy your "killer 4 years" at your 7th choice school, buddy. :)

actually wash u was my first choice. i only applied to harvard for ****s and grins.

Were you grinning when you got the rejection letter?

lol...although i dont at all agree, curtis is funny ^_^

Your belief in the likelihood that you'll get is often inversely proportional to the actual likelihood that you'll get in...

suffice to say, DON'T BE ARROGANT

edit: to have the opposite effect of what I just said, its rumored that some schools reject applicants they think are so good that its unlikely they'll actually go there. They're keeping people (like the op) that have no intention of going to school from screwing up their yield rate, and saving money on postage.

no curtis, he was *ing. remember, *s and grins. also, he wasnt rejected, he was waitlisted.

Curtis, there are 8 ivy league schools. So technically, Wash U would be everybody's 9th choice

agree with laurenemma and bing04 - pure stats aren't everything....

what were your guys ECs, just so i can gauge how far off i was.
mine were: work 15hrs a week, varsity track, went to japanese school on saturdays(fluent), officer of some clubs(fbla, nhs, asian-american club), worked on project with museum, small awards like qualify for aime, ap scholar+distinction, etc. and stuff like that...i know its weak, but i thought it was strong enough for washu, i guess not.

Also, he wasnt rejected, he was waitlisted.

What's it called when one never makes it off of the waitlist? I think it starts with an "R". Could be wrong though.

mine were similar

All State Orchestra 3 years, Southeast Districts 3 years, a lot of music ensembles and awards, AIME Qualifier, Work 10 hours a week, AP Scholar w/Distinction, NHS Treasurer, Science Olympiad Leader, Varsity Soccer, Varsity Track, National Latin Exam Gold Medals, Tutoring, various book awards and other stuff...i think the music stuff got me in

National Level Rower(I don't know why I would go to Wash U w/only a club team but I just recently dropped my time and my Ivies, Division 1, don't know if such a late push will help with the schools), Theatre 7 Years, Choir 9 Years, AIME Qualifier, School Newspaper, Literary Magazine, Peer Tutor, AP Scholar with honor or distinction(I don't remember), National Merit Finalist
Summers: Harvard Summer School, Intern at Museum of Art, NSLC in Law, CSLC in Medicine, Veterinary Technician

If that isn't enough I am also the daughter of a donating Alumni.

I got accepted to MIT with a 1570SAT and many, many, many EC's and awards, etc.

I accidentally implied in my interview that Wash-U was not my first choice, lol...

Yes, this is insane...
