Those mailing in Cornell Tax returns? What goes in there?

So far I just know the tax return itself goes in the envelope. Also the student non filer status sheet if needed. What other sort of misc. forms need to go in there? Are there any?

Thanks!!

I think they also wanted W-2s. As far as I know, that’s it. That’s all I sent.

Thanks mathmomvt for your answer. Yes from what I have gathered, it seems that the phrase “tax return” encompasses W-2s, schedules, the 1040 (which ever version you have) and 1099s as well. I also couldn’t find other papers that applied to me, so I was a little paranoid if I was missing something–after all IDOC had a LOT of extra papers that I didn’t think I needed to send, but it turns out I did…

Anyone else a Cornell hopeful/financial aid hopeful or a parent of one? Did you find anything else that needed to be sent that surprised you?

Would it be safe just to follow IDOC? For example, if IDOC wanted a verification worksheet, do Cornell’s as well?

Ah and another thing, sorry. Did you write a SSN on each page you mailed to Cornell? I know IDOC asked for it, since they also had a coversheet, but Cornell doesn’t explain very well if they want a coversheet or something. How will they know what identifying information goes with my application?

Hi, this is what we did for my D after emailing the fin.aid. office. We sent an updated copy of the CSS Profile, 2010 tax returns with W-2s (ink signature on the tax returns) and the Student’s Non-Filer Statement. On every page, we wrote my D’s name, college she was applying to and her social security number. My D typed up a little letter just stating what was enclosed and we sent it with delivery confirmation.

Is this required of first year students or just returning students?

My D is applying to the school.

My son was accepted ED. I filled out and submitted the CSS profile. I also filed my taxes in January and filled out and received my FAFSA efc. FAFSA sends the report to the school. I did not know I had to send in my tax return. Where does it request the tax return.

We didn’t put my S’s name on all the pages of the parent tax return, and didn’t include 1099s or anything else that IDOC had asked for. Just the tax return, including the 1040 with ink signature and all the schedules required for filing, and a copy of the W2s.

smileygerl, look here for instructions for ED applicants: https://www.finaid.cornell.edu/finaid/apply/prospects/20112012early.cfm</a></p>

mathmomvt,

Thanks,
I will start that today.

Should this mail reach cornell by Feb 15th with taxreturn and W-2s?.

Can anyone please tell what is address to send to?. Thanks

The address is given at the bottom of the Financial Aid pages at the Cornell website: https://www.finaid.cornell.edu/finaid/apply/prospects/20112012regular.cfm</a></p>

They state that they want it by Feb. 15th. I have contacted them directly and they stated that they will not begin looking at a student’s financial aid application until they have their tax returns. They told me that missing this deadline would not reduce the amount of aid the student would be eligible for, but that you might not get an answer before May 1 if you missed the deadline. I assume this would not be the case for someone who only missed the deadline by a couple of days, but I was glad that we were ultimately able to meet that deadline.

Thanks a lot mathmomvt.

IDOC is not used for first year students. I mailed in my taxes and my son typed a short letter indicating that he did not have income and will not be filing a tax return for 2010.

I put a post it on the first page with my full name, SSN, and school that I’m applying to.
