Hello, I got into Thurgood Marshall and was pretty stoked about it until I read up on Muir and how it has the lowest GEs. Damn. I’m the laziest person you’ll ever meet and I am now wishing I was in Muir (is it possible to switch?). I have not heard a lot about Marshall so I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the place?

How are the dorms? Food? Location? Difficulty? How are the people like?

Oh and just for kicks I was wondering if the Yellow Fever video was an accurate assessment of the asian chicks at UCSD. If it is that would blow.

ONE MORE THING. Is it true that UCSD is lacking in the pretty girls? (9 out of 10 girls in San Diego are hot. But that 10th girl. . .goes to UCSD. - urbandictionary.com) That would doubly suck.

haha, yes, the Triton Eye. I'm in Marshall too, but i haven't heard anything really bad about it. People seem to hate the Dimensions of Culture GE, but other than that everything looks cool. You cannot switch colleges freshmen year, but you can as a second year.

haha, I live in SD, and I don't know about "9 out of 10 girls in San Diego are hot," but it is, after all Socal, so there are hot girls. Just hit the beach, hot girls tend to migrate there...
Plus, the north part of Black's beach (the beach straight west of Muir) is clothing-optional. :D

hey at least u guys are going to sd. ucsd has been my dream school (and btw i got in) but my parents are like "we dont like that school so ur going to UCI". i hate my parents :)

ln17: the thing isnt that my parents "want" me to go somewhere its where I "WILL" be going. btw is it completely mandatory to go to a univeristy after u submitted the statment of intent to register?

Your parents are looking out for your best interest. In SD, you would have most likely gone through four years with your virginity intact whereas in Irvine (where all the hot girls are) you would have found a pretty woman (and later, an equally successful job). You would have lots of babies and would make your Mom and Dad happy.

Sooo... Anyone have any juicy bits on Thurgood? How are the dorms?

Marshall is okay. OVT...the dining hall...has pretty good food with respect to the other colleges. I guarantee that you'll see some good looking girls at UCSD. The Marshall dorms were redone a few years ago so they should be in good condition. Oh yeah... DOC sucks. Have a blast fellow tritions.

yeah, its kind of annoying that you all keep saying all the girls are ugly...thats way too generalized...and even if there are hott girls somewhere, that doesnt mean they are going to want you...sorry but im a little bit offended.

tetrisgod: i actually just talked with my dad and he said that if i go to ucsd all i'll do is go to the beach and surf. and because of this i will become a bagger at ralphs for the next 40 years of my life.

this is exactly what he said. what a dumbass.

RipCurl, that sucks man! Ahh well.. Newport beach is a bike-ride away from UCI... surf away my brother! Also, it's not too far from San Onofre for those excellent beach-campout weekends :D

theripcurl1969: Your condition of forcing to choose the college is so much like me. My dad is technically telling me I must go to UCI also.
So the reason that your dad doesn't want you to go to UCSD is because he thinks it's party school? If yes then this perception is false because UCSD is considered as an "anti-party" school, A lot of pre-med.
In my view UCI is more socialize so you have more chance of going to parties there and could end up neglecting your studies. What nationality are you, Are you Asian by any chance?

Ripcurl....by not allowing you to go to sd, they are keeping you close to home. seperation anxiety maybe? defy the parents and go to sd!! you are setting yourself up for a world of pain...control your own destiny.

wow. i found out a lot more than i expected. the girls are ugly at sd and marshall is science based (crap!). haha. anyways, all i wanted to know are how many units are required and what the ge requirements are. i've been looking through as many sites as possible, but none of them give me a clear definition.

and good thing about the food. i hear it's the best. :D.

It isn't science based. If you are a non-science major you will only have to take 3 science classes- one chem, one bio, and one physics. Don't let this worry you though, the classes are pretty easy and most of your classmates will have the same problems as you. The classes are made so that people with no interest in science can do well. This is the link to the GE sheet from this year, it should be at least similar to next year's: http://marshall.ucsd.edu/pdfs/2007/GE_SHEET_06.pdf

is it possible to do a schedule like this: micro/macroecon, calc, writing course and then another additional course..wwhat courses from that will satisfy the ge's? thanks..totally confused
