My other thread:)

TI-84+ can do integrals and derivatives. I'm in Calc AB, btw, and an 83+ is fine for even that class...84+ is just convienient :)

Just convenient..?No idea what integrals/derivatives are, Googling it makes it look hard:(

But I hope I get to keep it and waste ?$30? so I can play games:P

Are you referring to just Ti-83 or Ti-83 Plus?

Either work, all you need is just a graphing calulator of some sort.

Can a 84-plus be used on standardized tests? (AP Calc, SATs, Math I/IIC...)

If not, don't bother getting one.

Wikipedia says TI 89 is the highest allowed on SAT, though it's not allowed on the ACT.

My unopened TI 84 Plus says "permitted on SAT, ACT, AP exams"

Seems like general consensus is that TI 84 Plus is convenient but not necessary.

TI-89 Titanium is the best.

i have it.

I <3 my TI-89 Titanium... For precalc though, its probably almost too powerful. TI-84+ should be fine.

Ti-89 Titanium. eBay. You're welcome.
:D

The TI84 series and the TI83+ are basically the same, one having more memory than the other.

^
Yea 83 and 84 has the same function but 84 has more memory and is faster

Ti-89 is by far the best one though. I own 84 and 89. 89 way in front

So if one's teachers require their students to use a Ti-83+, do you think that using a Ti-84+ would be breaking the rules...? :o

...
you should totally get a TI 92

A Ti-84 and Ti-83 really are virtually the same. The 84 is NOT a significant advantage over the 83. The difference is actually quite insignificant. The 84 I believe comes with more programs, but the only difference our teacher pointed out was that in AP Statistics, there was one function that the 84 could do that the 83 kids (Like me) had to take the extra 10 seconds to go look up something on a chart.

TI 92s are ancient? And only TI 89s are allowed on SAT(though not allowed on ACT)

So TI 84 Plus looks best. It's a TI 83 plus speed and programs as far as I can tell.

If you guys haven't bought your calculator yet, there's good deals this week at Office Depot. TI-83 Plus is $45 I think and TI-84 Plus is $65. They're normally about 100 during the school year, so if you're going to need one now's the time to buy.

Thanks for the tip :o

I can't find it on Google though. Is it for all stores? Guess I gotta return this $105 one to Walmart.

I was kidding about the 92. -_-;

No prob. I probably should have mentioned that there's a rebate and coupon code you need to fill out. Still though, its a pretty good price.
