Have a question on the Tiernan Field House. My D really likes the fact that there are women's only hours there. She says she would be more able to dig down and get a real workout that way. I have a question about the other hours. Do male students from the other Claremont Colleges have access to the facilities, or is that restricted to only those connected with Scripps

thanks in advance

The website says that the women only hours are all day Sunday and from 4:00 to midnight the other six days. Men can use the field house in the mornings until 4:00 M-Sat. Here is the link:

Scripps College : Field House Hours of Operation

Hi,
I work at the front desk of the Field House, and the Women's Only blurb at the top of that page is outdated. That was our policy last semester. Our new policies are outlined further down on the page.

Currently, Scripps Only hours are from 4pm-7pm weekdays, but during these hours Scripps students are allowed to bring a guest, and that guest may be male. Scripps faculty and staff may also workout during these hours, including men.

However, we do have Women only hours from 7pm-close Mon-Thurs. and all day on Sunday. Sunday the building and pool are both women only.

In addition, the FieldHouse has drop-in classes that are Scripps only and while they aren't limited to just Scripps women, they are regularly all female. The classes include popular pilates and turbo kickboxing classes as well as yoga, core work, and weight training.

And as for the other colleges, all Harvey Mudd and Claremont McKenna students, faculty and staff are permitted to use the facility.

How much extra cost is there to using the facilities. Do you just pay for classes or for use of machines etc.?

Scripps, Harvey Mudd, and Claremont McKenna students may use the facilities free of charge; they have drop in classes every week that are free as well. Some PE classes require an extra fee. Eternal Icicle will probably know the details betters since she works there (PS, hi hi :) )

Like Gracieloos (:)hello hello) said, the facility is completely free for Scripps, Mudd and CMC. Scripps students may also bring one guest for free, if they'd like. The Scripps-Only drop in classes are also free of charge. Dancers (or any one else really) can reserve one of studios for practice during the times when the rooms are not being used for classes. Groups choreographing and practicing a piece together often do this, and it is also free.

College PE classes, which you must register for along with your other classes and are sometimes for credit, often have a $35 semester fee.

Pomona and Pitzer students must pay a $5 entry fee each time they come in unless they are the guest of a Scripps student.
