Tigertown Bound!

@mre1991 Looks like someone as admitted with 2 years of language. Good news for your son.

Hi all I have been stalking this forum for info but have not posted.
My DD is OOS and applied back in August She is top 7% of her class 3.84UW/4.47W and scored a 29 on her ACT.
She has applied in both pre-vet studies/Biology which I think neither of these majors have a cap like Nursing or some of the other majors. Based on the Calculator online she seems to be in line with the $7500 Merit scholarship.
My question is do all OOS kids that hit these marks automatically get this money if they are accepted? Also, if she is in a major that does not have a cap on # of kids accepted does she automatically get in with these numbers.?
Finally, if we do not hear anything regarding Merit money in the next couple of weeks does that mean she is not eligible for any and will get admission decisions in Mid Feb.
Thanks for any insight.

Nothing in snail mail today from Clemson :(. This happened with Butler too. 4 of her classmates heard weeks before DD did and she applied the same week. All were accepted and all got merit aid. Hoping this is the case with Clemson.

@catholicmom3 It will come . Her stats are great. Since this happened with another school , it makes me wonder about your mail carrier.

DS finally received his acceptance to Clemson! He is not home so cannot open the envelope and provide any details. #%*%#!

Yay.!!! @Cheeringsection . Call that boy and tell him to get home !

@Cheeringsection congrats!

Thanks @carolinamom2boys !

Is he home yet? @Cheeringsection

We are in PA and waiting to hear about admission and (hopefully) scholarship. I just discovered that SC’s Uniform grading scale is vastly different than our high school. PA doesn’t have an uniform grading scale. For example our high school a 4.0 is a 100 and a 93 would be a 3.7. The maximum you can earn for an honors course is a 4.40. The way I read the SC GPA scale, a SC student could earn a maximum of 5.375 in a honors course. I am concerned about how admissions will view her GPA. Do they take the time to recalculate every single course (she took mostly Honors) to see what her GPA would be on the SC Uniform scale? When you compare her GPA, as calculated by her high school, it is much lower than what it would be using your scale. She is in the top 10% of her class and scored above a 1250. She applied as an Education or Psychology major. Thank you.

They recalculate and have a higher GPA standard for instate students .

My DD got her Clemson acceptance letter on 12/17! We are all thrilled! She is in-state and a Palmetto Fellows early recepient. She will be a Packaging Science major. We were told by Clemson admissions that they are sending out acceptance letters to those who will receive merit scholarships in December. They said to receive a merit scholarship the students needs at least a 27 ACT/1200 SAT, 3.5 gpa and top 10% of their class. This is for in-state kids, not sure about out of state. Good luck to everyone. All y’all’s stats sound great. I’m sure you’ll get it! Go Tigers!

Congrats to your daughter @carolinamom25.

Hey all. My DD received her acceptance and notice of $7500 OOS scholarship on Monday. For those curious we are in Colorado so my D was very anxious seeing all of the other acceptances pop up here. She has already decided that Clemson is it for her and would have put in our deposit already except we are waiting for a login that is supposed to follow in a couple of days. I wanted to say thanks for all of the great insight on this thread. It was very helpful and best of luck to all in finding the right fit for next year.

Congrats @gmoneypop . It’s always good to know exactly what you want. She’s gonna love SC. Let me know if you have any questions , I’m 45 minutes from Clemson.

I posted this in another thread but my son received his acceptance a week before Christmas. We are OOS and he received $15,000 per year in merit scholarship.

@tripleteens Congrats! From what I’ve read that seems to be the max for OOS this year. Seems like Clemson used to offer OOS waivers that automatically took OOS tuition down to in-state price. The difference for OOS seems pretty steep compared to other colleges.I am not sure if there are other scholarships awarded also? DD is very interested in Clemson. We are still waiting for her letter.

@catholicmom3 15,000 is the max for OOS which makes tuition equal to instate tuition. There may be additional major specific scholarships available .

OOS tuition is currently $32,800 per year. Those OOS with $15k awards would pay $17,800 per year for tuition. In state tuition is $13,882 currently.

While our OOS DS loves Clemson, and we are happy he is there, I did note that in real dollar terms, the approved increase in tuition for OOS students was almost 40% higher than that for in-state students. Clemson has become increasingly popular for both in state and OOS. They may figure they can continue to raise the OOS fees and still be attractive. Depends whether you’re comparing to in-state options, other OOS, or private.
