Timeframe of SAT Retake

Hello all,

I currently a junior and took my first SAT last month, October 2017. I received my score, a 1510; but because it did not meet my personal expectation, I am planning to retake it. My parents and I decided on immediately taking it again in November, our reasoning being that the preparation is still “fresh on my mind”, and I won’t be as nervous (I was very anxious in the October testing since it was my first time and therefore felt I wasn’t as focused).

Some people say that its too soon and I won’t see much score improvement, but I see no reason to delay it. I’ve already exhausted most of my resources (all available online tests and various book tests) and find that my errors are scattered across various topics making pointed studying ineffective.

I’m mainly wondering whether it is detrimental to my college app if they see that my SAT scores are only within 10-20 points of each other? Additionally, would you recommend me to take it again so soon?

Thanks,
~OnMyWay2Harvard

I don’t think it is detrimental at all if your scores are only within 10-20 points of each other. On the contrary as it would seem to reinforce the “legitimacy” if you will of your original score. I understand your reasoning for taking the test again in November and don’t think there is any reason why that would be viewed negatively.

If you are not satisfied with your score because it is lower than your plateau practice score, you can retake it anytime. Once you have reached the plateau, there is little room for improvement. If you need to practice more, then you may wait till after the winter break to retake. Either way, you should treat your retake as the last attempt.
