Tips for a Transfer?

There probably aren't many current students hanging out around on here but I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm transferring in the middle of my sophomore year and was wondering if anyone had any tips about getting around campus? I'm planning on rushing but I don't want my only friends to be in greek life so I was planning on joining a club but on top of work I don't know if that'd be too much. So maybe alternate ways of meeting people? I was told that I'll get on campus housing but haven't been told where yet so if anyone knows what the likelihood of me getting a certain type of room, section on campus etc. If anyone knows what the majority of dorms look like too that'd be stellar because I was getting much info about that and didn't get time to visit. Anyone that has even a minimal amount of info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Can’t speak to on campus housing since I commute (transferred in fall 2013), but most of it is located on the south and west of academic buildings. If you’re a humanities major south side is best, natural sciences or engineering west from a strictly walking optimization standpoint. Greek houses are to the south east of campus.

Greek life involves a lot of time if you’re active in your particular chapter (which is kind of the point). I can tell you as initiation chair for the engineering honor society that I can count on one hand the number of members who are also in a traditional social fraternity/sorority.

One last thing, as a general tip, learn to utilize the busses on campus. They’ll get you places such as stamp quickly and run fairly frequently.

Thank for the tips! I’m not sure what major I’ll be yet or even what classes. I’m trying to transfer into an LEP major so I don’t even know how that even works. The bus system definitely seemed a little more complicated than I’m used to so I’ll make sure to try to get familiar with it. At my old school we had a max of maybe 5 actually useful routes?
