I just received my schedule in the mail, and as it turns out, I have math first period, which means 7:30 AM. I had math first period last year, and did absolutely terribly because I was exhausted. I'm not a morning person, and math is by far, my worst class. I'm a B student in math with a little work, and I have the potential to be an A student in math with A LOT of work, but I don't have the energy to put that much effort into my work that early in the morning.

I'm going to try and get my schedule changed, but chances are, it won't be possible.

So, does anyone have any tips on how to get me to wake up before my first class? Any rituals that you use to get yourself energized? I really need to do well in math this year, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

Listen to some upbeat music in the car on the way.

I have to leave my house by 6:35 AM every morning because I have zero period choir (by choice, but sometimes it's harder than others) and I don't attend my home school. And let me tell you, this REALLY helps me. Sometimes I even end up dancing in my car and belting out the music and I'm completely awake by the time I get to school.

Some other things I do:
-Drink coffee (cream and sugar make ALL the difference, or even milk if you don't have cream and a little bit goes a long way on the milk, don't put too much or the coffee will get cold.) ((also, be careful with this one because if you're not used to caffeine (((Californians are notorious caffeine addicts))) you may crash later in the day.))
-EAT BREAKFAST. You will be AMAZED how much of a difference this makes, even if you just grab a bagel on the way out the door.
-If you're having an ESPECIALLY hard time, take a quick shower. It gets your blood pumping and always helps me.

Yeah, the coffee is a given. I'm also big... oversleeper. So, I'll have to kick that habbit and wake up early enough to shower in the mornings, eat breakfast, and get out of the house early enough to listen to upbeat music in the car. :p

Yeah, people have study hall instead of regular classes. I wasn't supposed to have one, but they couldn't fit one of my classes into my schedule. So, now I have it first period =)

Get at least six hours of sleep before class...trust me, I went with 5 hours of sleep every day for Freshmen year....OMG I fell asleep in EVERY Class, and I fell asleep on a math test and got a 43!!! But thankfully the guy was nice and raised it to a 75, but still......I learned my lesson there.

Personally I think listening to music is a bad idea. Doing that too long while sitting in a car makes me fall asleep
