I sleep for about 2 and half hours after school then I eat dinner and drink a large cup of tea or coffee. Then I am like wide awake and I can stay up to about 2:30...which give me more then enough time to do homework...

I just fall asleep...bah...guess that (and my senioritis lol) is why I'm failing AP English right now...hmm...

nofx:
what's the point of sleeping after school - 9 or 10 and staying up all night? why not study till 9 or 10 and then get a good night's sleep??

makes zero sense to health-concious sleep lovers like me.

Greenmoon,
because some people (like me) can't concentrate and study at home with 2 little sisters running around the house, broad sun streaming day light, the opportunity to talk to people (with fam memebers or on the phone), knowing that simpsons is on tv or osmething, etc..
Some people don't like studying straight after school. I'd rather just watch some Tv or go on the net or go out..
But some of my friends are like you too: study straight after school till like whenever, and go to sleep early.
I belive that is a better method than mine but I just can't do that.. Maybe it's because I feel like as if I need a big rest because I 'went to school' lol

Evansomething (sorry can't remember..)
I know it's bad for my biological clock but when a something's gotta be done, it's gotta be done.

This may sound weird but for some reason mouthwash helps me to stay awake after having had NO sleep at all the night before. Especially really strong stuff like Listerine. All while keeping my breath minty fresh. lol.

Lol viper i know where you are coming from....its the same for me only I brush my teeth and I feel more awake.

My problem is different from many of the above posters...I very rarely go home right after school because I have 1-2 ECs every day after school (or work, which is 3 nights a week from 4-10, but thankfully 2 are weekends). So by the time I get home (ranges from 4:00-10:00, depending on the day), I just have no motivation to work, and I am so tired that I fall asleep, which makes me tired and less motivated.

My solution has been iced coffee after my inevitable naps (or before to counteract them). Also, as I mentioned before, I like to listen to music and drink water.

Also, I try to always be in bed by midnight, even if my homework is incomplete (usually it is the AP Euro Notes that get the cut). I can always read through the chapters in the morning. I need that 6 hours of sleep to function.

play loud music and dance around your room like a crazy person.

i recommend pat benatar.

JTC007 - thats basically what I do too. First priority goes to assignments that have to be turned in - labs, papers, french translations. etc. Then, any tests or quizzes that might be the next day, then homework that the teacher checks.

Anything that doesn't directly hurt me not to do it (even though it may in the long run) rarely gets done. Math homework is useless to me and the teacher doesn't check so I barely ever do it. I just go over the core concepts and equations before a test or quiz. Same for French, except with vocabulary.

I wake up every morning at 6:00 and review for tests or quizzes that day and then after that I will do anything that didn't get completed the night before. I have an hour in the morning where I can be productive, and 3 days a week I have first period free to do work as well, though usually I end up sitting around with friends drinking coffee and talking.

I have a bad issue with sleep. I wish school started at like 10:30 and went until 5:30. I don't get nearly enough sleep. I get to bed around midnight or 12:30 and wake up at 5:30 or 6:00. Average amount of sleep is usually 5.5-6 hours. That's NOT enough! If I didn't have coffee, I don't know what I would do....

CAFFINE!!!!! Its not great for you but...

Oh, cool, I asked this question at another forum and this is what I got:

Drinking coke

Listening to music

Smell something fruity/citrus

Reading your notes out loud

Having some fresh air once in a while

Food!

Low temperature (although I'll disagree because I sleep in these conditions...)

Keeping your eyes opened even if you feel so, so, so inclined to close them. Once that feeling passes you'll feel rejuvenated

Just read through your notes and sleep. Hopefully you'll dream of it.

Heh, sorry about that last one; just had to throw it in. ;)

Problem with caffeine - tolerance develops. I try to avoid caffeine whenever possible because I do not want to get tolerant to it.

A huge problem with naps is that if you wake yourself up after only 30 minutes, you just want to go back to sleep and don't want to do anything else.

While I realize that different strategies are good for different people, bouncing around ideas is always great.

Seriously...you need help. I mean...what the hell is wrong with you and all these people. This who sight is so effed up and yet I read it because I find it SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO amusing that there are people who lie so much and inflate themselves/ degrade themselves for attention from people they don't even know or give a **** about. Yes, that's brilliant, let's all listen to a bunch of highschool kids who are in competition with everyone else and get some strange thrill out of seeing other people miserable. I know you don't in particular deserve my caustic invective, but the whole concept behind this site is retarded. I mean...so many people just sit here laughing at everyone else. I mean, those idiots who sit there and complain about how they got all fours and fives on the AP exams. Who effing cares? I mean, I know college is competitive and all but seriously....GET A LIFE. I have a remedy....GO SLEEP FOR GOD'S SAKE. The hell to you all.

I think I've an insanely high tolerance at this stage... I've only been off caffeine for 8 days in the last 5 years.

I can't stand coffee or tea, so I've been known to take half a caffeine pill before school some days. You get this much homework, tests, plus a shower in the morning and the bus comes at 6:30...

Somehow, I stay on-task better if I have the TV on, like at half-mute. Music distracts me, but just having people talking in the background really helps me stay on task.

Until I go to check rules for MLA citation and end up on this site again... ;-)

Lol good point this site is a pretty big distraction :)

I'm guessing just from your comment that you are male (males tend to concentrate better with some background noise, females generally study better in silence). I like to have some music on, so I guess I follow that trend.

Hah, nope. I'm a girl. I think I like the noisebecause my house is always so loud--I'm not used to silence; it drives me nuts. I end up talking to myself, or singing, if it gets too quiet.

Males are more distractible than females on average. Not surprising as males have much higher rates of ADHD, ADD, and Asperger's than females. Obviously, there do exist exceptions.

Pff, forget all these strategies. I just tough it out. Keep the eyes open, and keep on working no matter what. It's not fun, but it gets the job done (rhymage).

taking a shower wakes me up

Liters and liters of Diet Coke. If the caffeine doesn't work, then at least you gotta pee every hour or so.. just have to keep on drinking
