Tips?

I was accepted by Michigan early action in December and despite getting a scholarship, I opted not to go there because of financial reasons.

Well, I regret it. I regret it a lot. I want to try and transfer to Michigan, LSA to be exact. Of course, I’d need to get a scholarship and everything (I’m not a Michigan resident).

I’d really appreciate any advice past transfers to Michigan can give me. Should I try to transfer for sophomore year or junior year? Do I even have a shot at a scholarship as a transfer? What classes should I take now? I’m going to call up Admissions, but any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You know mysliwiec5, the first thing you want to do is call your admissions officer and check if your offer is still in effect. I realize it is 2 months past the deadline, but you never know. Definitely communicate a heartfelt desire to attend Michigan. Don’t get your hope up, chances are, it is too late, but it is worth a shot.

Secondly, do not think about transfering from now. Try to give your current university a chance. Enjoy your first couple of years. Perhaps you will not wish to transfer once you have settled it. Of course, maintain as high a GPA as possible in the event you really wish to transfer, but also keep in mind that transfer students do not usually have access to the same financial aid packages that freshmen do. For that information, you should do as you suggest and contact the financial aid office directly.

All the best…and keep us posted.
