to anyone on CC who applied to Kenyon and was accepted/waitlisted

With May 1st rolling around that means that Kenyon will start to consider the waitlist. anyone have any idea when they will send out decisions? how do they contact you? letter? phone call? Does anyone know what to expect? I wonder how many people enrolled? I just sent my last letter to my rep. I have done all I can to stay in touch, send my grades, new recs, letter of interest. I know someone in admissions said that they have to wait a few days after May 1st because of postmarks but that around May 9th they should have an idea of how many they can take. AHHH THE INSANITY!

bump?!? ne1 from last yr get off the kenyon WL and remember around what time they heard from them???

hey valuable, any news on the waitlist yet? Best wishes!

actually i have heard from my rep, she emailed me today, but didnt have any new updates except that this year not many will be taken off the waitlist since a lot sent in for enrollment and that i will know closer to the 23rd. In fact, here is her letter

I just wanted to give you an update on the waitlist situation. Right now, we
do not have any news to report, but we will let you know your status by the
end of the month. I apologize for not having any new information at this
time, but we are still assessing how many spaces we will have available.

I wish I had more news for you--I know this is a difficult time for you and I
am impressed with the maturity and the patience you have demonstrated with the
waitlist process. Kenyon would be lucky to have you, Valerie, as a member of
the class, but I do not know at this time if that will be possible. But,
again, we will let you know your status by the end of the month. If you have
any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask, and we will be in touch
at the end of May.

Hello,
Thank you for sending the letter from your rep. My D is very anxiously awaiting the results, too - It helps to know that they won't be contacting students for a few more weeks, but the outlook does not look good, it seems. What is your back-up plan?

well besides my rep, i talked with a few other reps in Admissions. it seems to me that they filled their quota but said they usually will lose 5-15 students to waitlists since around this time a lot of northeastern schools are accepting students off lists. They also mentioned that not as many people dropped off the WL as they wanted. Meaning there is well over a 100 kids who still want Kenyon. As of now, I can only wait along with your daughter. Right now I am enrolled at Rutgers, but I just sent a late appplication to Hendrix College in AR which seems a lot like Kenyon in terms of liberal feel and academics. I have been talking to some Hendrix kids on Myspace and they all love it. If they accept me (the money is cheaper then kenyon...only around 27,000) then I may consider it. They said even though I am applying late, they I should get some merit money. Of course, kenyon remains my 1st choice, but its nice to know I have a decent LAC to go look at if KC doesnt work out. Just hang in tight and if my rep lets me know anything, I will post. I have kept very close contact with Joyce and she seems to like me, so I will let you know how things go. Good luck to your daughter again!

well bad news.....my rep. joyce said that everyone on the waitlist this year is being denied since kenyon over enrolled and wont be needing it this year. instead i am enrolling at hendrix college in AR. It was fun talking with everyone and although I can't attend Kenyon, i know it was meant to be this way, even if I loved the school. I hope to hear about all your experiences on CC. Good luck guys.

Valerie

Valerie, Thanks so much for the update! I know that your heart was set on Kenyon and this must be very disappointing news. I have very much appreciated all the news you've shared even though it must have been hard. The updates made us realistic and allowed my D to focus on making other plans, without having to contact the rep and get the bad news personally. Consequently, my D has reconciled herself to the idea of not attending Kenyon, even though it seemed like a very good fit. She'll be attending a local college with a good reputation and has learned a hard lesson, as I'm sure that you have, that sometimes things don't work out, even when you have done everything right. I think that you are a passionate young woman and that you will find something to contribute toward on your campus, and that you will amaze your classmates and instructors with your energy and dedication. Drop a note onto this list sometime to let us know how you are adjusting - maybe you'll be the Hendrix counterpart to kc_lady!

Some very interesting colleges that still have some openings, including New College in Florida, Drew, Clark U. It's good to know there are still great options.

Future of a motivated and determined person like you can never be hindered by which college you finally come to attend. Hendrix is a good school and you will certainly do well there. Best of Luck to you and keep us informed about how things go in your college.

i am really sorry to hear the bad news valerie. I am pretty sure that it is as much a loss to Kenyon as it is a disappointment to u. I do hope that you will overcome this small hurdle and have a fulfilling life ahead of u. My best wishes are always with u.

I'm sad to hear the news but thrilled that you are set on your future plans. Best of luck to you!

I won't be accepting a place in next year's class (unfortunately--it was a tough choice and Kenyon is an amazing school).

edit: Valerie, sorry about the bad news but it may end up being for the best. You never know what's supposed to happen, and where. In 5 years you'll think back to all the amazing friends and experiences you've made, and thank god that you didn't miss out on all of it. :)

Well I applied as a transfer to Kenyon and I got in!!!!!! A year later and I finally did it!!!!

Yay-
That's what is called perserverance! Have a great time in Gambier next year. It is a beautiful school, and you have worked hard for it.:)

I read your story months ago. Congratulations valuable1212! It's great you made it after many efforts :)

Great! I respect you a lot!
Congrats!
Your perseverance earn the success!
Best wishes!

okay, bump to this thread for class of 2011. i know waitlist/acceptance decisions are out.

I was accepted EDII! I mailed my deposit weeks ago.

Received the RD acceptance today, together with a pretty good financial aid package! It came as a really pleasant surprise since I wasn't expecting any decisions until April.
