Hi

I am an international student but I take the IB. Because this instruction also applies to the mid year report but my school is filling that out so I am wondering should I fill in the self reported course work?

Hi

I am an international student but I take the IB. Because this instruction also applies to the mid year report but my school is filling that out so I am wondering should I fill in the self reported course work?

I think that statement means if your school (or your coursework) follows the regular US system, then you should fill it out.

I went to an American school overseas (with an AP program), so I filled it out.

I think if you're on IB, then it also qualifies as "US based" since a fair number of schools in the US offer the IB program (and thus the adcoms are familiar with it - I think the purpose of this statement is that they don't want to read a bunch of courses that they've never heard of).

Basically, a Canadian school would not count, right (Although the course titles are quite similar and self-explanatory)?

I would hope so... I come from a Canadian school and did not fill it out. This partially because I have a trimester style school system, and wasn't quite sure how to reconcile the differences there... Err... Would that count negatively towards me? Should I send an email and fix that up somehow?

Alright thanks oasis

I think Canadian schools may be similar enough to fill it out. I just think they probably wouldn't want Chinese schools for example, where we have classes that may be very difficult to translate into English precisely. (and we don't even have A-F categorization)

But of course if you're on a trimester system then I think it's better off if you don't fill it out because like you said, it's hard to format it to the form.

I think that self-reported coursework page exists to make the application reading go faster since they wouldn't need to constantly refer to your transcript for your full list of courses. Having that page allows the adcoms to rapidly scan through your 4 years and your grades. Thus, whether or not you fill it out I doubt will make a difference on your application, although I'm sure the adcoms would appreciate it if you filled it out when its applicable (in the same vein, I'm sure they would appreciate it if you DIDN'T fill it out if the format doesn't fit so they wouldn't be lost and confused!) =p

Thank you for that clarification oasis!

But Oasis, the transcript is only one page, whereas the self-reported course form is like more than one page, so how can that speed up the application reading process?
