To clear up all the confusion on the .3(box) Dec. Math problem...

I have seen dozens of people asking the same question about this problem over and over again, and not getting a definitive answer. It is taking up a lot of space in the Math (and even CR) thread, so I just want to explain it once and for all. If a moderator deems this thread unnecessary, delete it, whatever. People just keep asking the same questions because they can't find the answer in the 600+ post designated Math thread.

.3u is equal to a one-digit integer divided by a two-digit integer. What is one possible value for (box)?
a) 2
b) 3
c) 7
d) 8
e) 9

Answer: 2

8/25 = .32

Cannot be .33(3333...) because it must be exact.

Cannot be .35 (despite 7/20 = .35) because 5 is not a given answer.

For the record, I had to omit this question. I figured it out as I was leaving the test center.

i got .38 but i forgot which numbers i used =)

You can't get .38... it would be 19/50, and the numerator has to be a single digit.

.38 is not possible because 38/100 = 19/50 which is irreducible, and 19 is not a single-digit integer.

noooooo =( ='(

Well, I was hoping for an 800 in math. Guess that won't happen now. F***, I was hoping that I could get an 800 on at least one section to balance out my horrible CR score.

When should I retake?

Interesting problem. It is .32

You could've just plugged into your Ti-83 or whatever the choices and done MATH ->Frac and gotten the answer easily.

Yup. And I hate that I didn't think of that in the moment.

Haha Duper.. thats a smart technique..i use that function so much in school that i forgot to use it this time.... that was a lucky way of getting it..... i just randomly put 8/25... and im like sweet.. and it was 0.32..and there was a 2.. so i was like so happy and stuff...
