<p>To Dean J mostly but if others have the information I wouldnt mind hearing other opinions </p>

<p>Would it be helpful to try and explain a poor performance during my sophomore year ?</p>

<p>I had a medical problem for half the year and personal issues that led to an extremely low gpa and class rank that is still effecting my overall rank and gpa while I have an extremely large upward trend and my freshman year was good too. </p>

<p>I just feel that my chances are being hurt b/c of those grades and I want to explain them somehow if that would matter or will the grade trend speak for itself</p>

<p>I would think they'd be very interested in anything you could provide to give them insight regarding those circumstances.</p>

<p>There is space below the MYR grade report for additional comments to be considered. I'm sure they would be glad to hear what you have to say, and an explanation definitely can't hurt you.</p>

<p>J, I would imagine that your counselor would have explained a medical problem in your recommendation letter.</p>

<p>By the way, this is not the best place to get an admission officer's advice. It's much better to just call the admission office and speak with the Dean of the Day. If you had called at 4:30 PM on the 12th (the time of your first post), you would have gotten an answer immediately.</p>
