To take the SAT again or not...

I'm signed up to take the SAT tomorrow but I'm not sure if I should. My score now is 1360/2010. M 660, V 700, W 650. I'm just afraid it will go down (as has happened to my friends) and that itll make me look worse. I'm only really concerned about William and Mary and UVA.

Stats:
Top 10%(at least) in a fairfax county high school
GPA: 4 w(4.04 with AP credit this year), 3.92 uw
Plus a whole bunch of other stuff...

Assuming that was ur 1st test I'd say its worth another try (if ur really dissapointed about having a 1360/2010). I'm pretty sure it's been said that people that retake the test normally receive the same score or better on their 2nd / 3rd try (this would be ETS encouraging students 2 pay them more, but it also happens 2 b true)

2000+ is also a very respectable score so I think its up 2 ur personal preference.

If u've taken the SAT 3+ times and 1360/2010 is ur best score, disregard my above comments.

If you've prepared at least a little bit since you last took it, I would go ahead and retake it. Even if you haven't done anything, I would still give it a try; you might score higher just because you're a little more familiar with the test. And I don't think that it'll look too bad as long as your score doesn't go down significantly. At any rate, you have a good score to fall back on...

So, IMO it's probably worth the time/money to get in one more try anyway.

It was my first time and I wasn't disappointed with it. I'm just concerned if I go down then that will make colleges think less of me.

If you are junior, I'd say take it again beginning of senior year. Your score should go up then even with minimal studying.. especially in Verbal (even though that is your highest score already..)

Even if ur score does go down
1) they'll take ur higher score
2) unless its a huge drop (say u score sumthing like a 1100/1700 which might bring up sum issues) it wont have much of an effect

I'm a senior. Argh I dunno. If it matters, these are my SAT 2 scores:
Lit - 700, Math I - 690, US History - 560

ok since you're a senior

i suggest you take the test, but dont send the scores.

that way it wont hurt you, but if you do better it will help you.

I wanted to do that but I wouldn't be able to get the scores in on time that way. I shoulda taken it last month <_<.

Why not - it's just a few hours.

I say take it, and if you think you did poorly afterward, just cancel the scores

I decided not to. I think I'm already a strong enough candidate. Thanks for the advice though.

Well, even though you decided not to, here's my story:

I took my first SAT directly after taking a KAPLAN course and got a 2080. I was happy, but wanted to see if I could do better, so I signed up for the next test.

The weeks before this next test, I was busy studying for my AP exams, so I had no time at all to study. I decided to take the test anyway, just to see how I would fair without preparation. I wound up getting a 2270 on the next one, and this is where it stayed. So, my advice to anyone who asks is always to retake, no matter how worried you are about a future score.
