My parents got a letter today thanking them for encouraging me to apply.
But it goes on to say how it’s hard to get into UNC and how they get % of applicants. Then they say they hope that regardless of the decision they hope we my parents will remain loyal to the university. It says they don’t know the decision yet.
It sounds like a let down letter to us.
Do all alumni parents get this? or just the soon to be rejected?
@Tuxrd2 We received the same letter. The wording is definitely careful and ambiguous. I’d rather not receive it at all if anyone out there in the admissions office wants feedback about how it comes across to alums. Whatever the intent, it’s not the right time or tone. I asked around and was told not to worry about it, but who knows.
My daughter received one today as well. We received one earlier from UVa that was very similar. I did UG at UVA and Grad school at UNC.
A nice way to show that the legacy status is acknowledged and not overlooked. Also, a subtle hint that “donations” are always appreciated…
My daughter’s father received one as well. I don’t think it means anything on admission. I took heart that 40% admission rate out of state. Much higher than if no parent an alumni.
