Today's (March 9, 2010) ACT

^Pioneer or Huron?

Go blue!!!

Ok, so today’s test went well (I think). The reading is the one that got me. MAth, science, and reading were straightforward to me.
So, I was looking around for some good ACT prep books to help me prepare for the June one. I found Barron’s to be quite interesting.
[Barron?s ACT 2009 - George Ehrenhaft - Paperback (ISBN 9780764140006) - Buy Books, Music and Movies at Borders](<a href=“Barnes & Noble Welcomes Borders® Bookstore Customers | Barnes & Noble®”>Barnes & Noble Welcomes Borders® Bookstore Customers | Barnes & Noble®)
click on the google preview… wow… it practically has the whole book on the preview… i plan on buying this in additional to “The Real ACT Guide”

Good luck to anyone taking the ACT in April or June.
Workkeys and MME will be a piece of cake the next few days(:

I thought the science was easier than most because the questions that ask you to compare/contrast different viewpoints was manageable. I thought it was easier than other ACT’s.

@GeddyLeeRulez: I will admit I circled that question and came back to it. But after I read through it the second time, I felt really dumb not answering it at first. I guess it was just an awkward sentence if you got hung up on it too. I just had to slow down and read it carefully, and the answer was pretty clear.

Since most on this thread are Michiganders, would someone please tell me what they know about WorkKeys and the MME? I’ve never actually been told anything about them. It just seems that at my school, teachers no nothing to little about the tests and administrators never communicate with our parents or us about it. And plus, isn’t the MME promise scholarship empty anyway? Like I said, just some general information would be nice. I believe WorkKeys is a career matchmaker? I could be wrong…

@GeddyLeeRules, that question confused me too. I picked “We live in the Piedmont region of eastern North Carolina, and we don’t travel very often.” It was such a dumb mistake. I wasn’t sure on a few other questions as well.

Yeah, the science was sort of challenging. Too much useless reading, and I ran out of time. I thought the math was fairly easy. Although, that’s the subject I reviewed the most. But yeah, the science and reading part definately worsened my score.

MIT:

Was that one of the options? That choice actually seems to make the most sense… Don’t coordinating conjunctions always get a comma before them?

I don’t, however, remember seeing that as one of the choices. I was actually looking for that when I first saw the question.

@LBlock: They don’t give you the option to purchase the writing section? That’s just a waste if they don’t…especially if you get a decent to outstanding score.

No, it’s Tennessee. That’s how they roll.

For the prime number question, I got 10. 10 is a factor of both 5 and 2 which are both prime.
The science passages wern’t presented as they normally are. I usually score in the high 20s or low 30s but I’ll be lucky with mid 20s this time. :(

I also asked around about the MME and work keys stuff.
Apperantly the MME doesn’t count for crap; MI used to give scholorships for it but they don’t anymore.
Work keys doesn’t count for anything either.
I heard both are very, very easy though compared to the ACT.

Well, i studied for the math and the english because i thought those would be most difficult. and i didnt study for reading and science because i thought those would be easy.
Turns out that the most fun on the test was the math, and the english was EASY.
Science and Reading probably brought me down to a 23.
23 sucks for me, so im retaking, and im going to study exclusivly on reading and science.
could someone link to retake dates in michigan?

Son took yesterday and thought it was easy overall. He said he was finished 10 minutes early on the English portion, and feels he guessed on only one question (in Science). He’s hoping for at least a 35…

I think that Michigan basically uses the MME as a tool to measure how well the state and individual schools are doing. Since the Promise Scholarship has been “suspended”, the ACT is the only test that really counts for anything. The WorkKeys test measure readiness to enter the workplace as opposed to the ACT which measures readiness to enter college. It is actually only a portion of the actual WorkKeys test. Most of it was a lot easier than the ACT. The other test is just a state test (I think it replaced the MEAP?)

when can we start asking specific questions?!

It was pretty easy.
English was ridiculously easy, Math only had a few challenging ones, but the rest was easy. Reading. WOW. Easiest reading section I have ever taken. Science was so-so, I always thing I did awful on Science but end up getting a pretty good score.
Predicting a 33/34
E: 34/35
M: 34
R: 34
S: 31/32

@Singingwalrus
Unfortunately, the answer is 70. You had to use 2,5, and 7. If you used 1,2,5 that would mean that 1 is a prime number, which it isnt

Damn, I put 10 for that one. I think i did pretty well overall.

Anyone know when results are coming in? I really don’t want to wait the 5 weeks…any way we can get them quicker, if possible?

Math was challenging. More challenging than usual. Usually I have a good 15 mins to chill even after rechecking problems. This time I barely had 6ish. English I dominated. Only doubt I have was, in the grandma and the mountains passage, was it in her powerful hands, in her firm embrace…what was that?

Reading was great. Science was pretty good, although I didn’t get the last question with the X1/2s.

I’m predicting a 32. 33 would be fantastic.

Well that sucks. I was taught that 1 was a prime number. Crap.

errg, i got that one wrong too. I put 50…552. They had to be three different primes?

Can anyone post specific questions? I can’t remember anything and want to compare my answers.

The english answer was “hulking” btw.
