TOEFL on the 20th

Hi guys,

I'm taking the TOEFL the next Sunday and I'm wondering if I should bother reading the entire TM Official Guide. I did a couple of reading and listening exercises and they were really easy, so I'm getting lazy and have just been staring at the first page of the Speaking section for days and closing the pdf in two mins, every time.

How much preparation will it really take to get a 110+? Does anyone know anything about the percentiles here? And should I take 4 hours out of my writing-applications time and give a practice test?

PS - I can listen to native accents well (lots of TV ;)), and can write fine (11 on the essay in the SAT) and can also read fine (780 in Lit), and can probably speak okay, too (I kinda like debating).

Am I prepared?

Thanks

PPS - Just checked percentiles. Indians, at around 91 percentile, have one of the highest average percentiles. :)

hi canhazphysics! I just registered for the test and went unprepared! I never did ANYTHING but i scored a 113. It’s damn easy. And since you have a 11 in the SAT essay and a 780 in SAT literature, dont be surprised if you get a 120.

Are you a '16er?

Thanks, both of you! I’ll do a few practice questions from the OG, then, and take the load off my chest.

Yea, iamthebist, I’m a '16er. N1 on your TOEFL :)

Is it mandatory to take TOEFL? Can’t SAT suffice?

Yep, it’s almost mandatory. Most colleges don’t grant an exemption from the TOEFL because of a good SAT score. Only a couple do, as far as I know.
