I have read on CC site that "If your home language is not English and
if your primary language of instruction has not been English for at least five years, you are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language."

I arrived in America in July of 2003. I used to go to a school which didn't teach English well. I started to learn alphabet in ninth grade. and the most I could say in sophomore year was "how are you doing?"...When I got here, I coudn't speak a word, but I worked my butt off to learn this language. And this is my English!!!!!

I scored a 330 on my PSAT upon my arrival, but after working for weeks and weeks, I was scoring 600-650 on 10RS. I am waiting for my scores from November 6th. Let's assume that I will get in the same range(I scored 800 on 8 of 10RS practice tests).

Do I still need to take TOEFL? I think I have showed a great improvement, but is that 600-650 good enough? What do you guys sugest? I am trying to avoid taking TOEFL...

An adcom officer said to me if you get above 600 in your verbal SAT, you don't need to take TOEFL.

I'm an International student, my language of instruction has always been English.. I'm not going to take my TOEFL. (maybe just for immigration purposes, but Columbia probably won't see them).

If your english is that good I would not worry about the TOEFL. I mean, take it but you will pass easily. I have a lot of friends in this situation and they all just ace the TOEFL when they take it.

thicks, you think i should take it?
i have no time anyway... till after columbia decision comes out
