tOfficial I HATE JUNIOR YEAR thread.

I know this is late, but I noticed some people mention how others can take 4 - 6 APs while others struggle with “just” three.

I think it’s important to know what your school is like, and what APs require what work. I’m taking the same amount of APs as I was last year, but this year is a lot easier because I took the time to ask previous students what they thought of each class. Know your school and know your classes. I know we all have those “easier” APs and those “harder” ones. Colleges won’t know that (unless, of course, you fail your AP exam).

Senior year now is a lot more enjoyable than my senior year (even WITH apps) but I did have my good share of fun junior year. I’d suggest to start the apps AS SOON AS it’s available. First day Common App was out, I spent an hour filling out the info (name, address, colleges, etc). That was an hour I spent over break, so it was an hour I have for my senior year (essays, anyone?). It’s better than now when a lot of my friends are only thinking about this stuff!

Best of luck :D

ugh, i’m taking my chem sat ii’s this saturday and i planned on studying my ass off this weekend, only to get a cold and a fever. on top of that i have a **** ton of homework i haven’t even started. ■■■.

I’m taking the SAT in 6 days. Plus, this week is midterms week. Worth 15% of my average in all my classes.

Monday:
-Chess Club
-Lacrosse practice
-Get home at 5:30, 2 hrs. homework + 2 hrs. SAT
-Study for midterms. (1 hr)

Tuesday:
-Lacrosse conditioning
-Some sort of leadership council, 6-7
-Get home at 7:30, 2 hrs. homework + 2 hrs. SAT
-Study for midterms. (1 hr)

Wednesday:
-Academic bowl
-Lacrosse practice, 6-8
-Get home at 8:30, 2 hrs. homework + 2 hrs. SAT
-Study for midterms (1 hr)

Thursday:
-Take half of my midterms.
-Beta Club
-Tutor a kid, 5:30-6:30
-Get home at 7, 2 hrs. homework + 2 hrs. SAT
-Study for midterms. (1 hr)

Friday:
-Take the other half of my midterms.
-Pass out.

Saturday:
-SAT!!!
-Get home. Do homework.
-Start studying for PSAT.

This entire school year…same thing. Subtract ‘midterms’ and insert ‘tests/quizzes’, ‘SAT’ is of course interchangeable with ‘PSAT/SAT Subject tests/AP Exams’, and a variety of extracurricular activities will continue to keep me busy every day of the week except Friday (my ‘crash’ day, haha).

PSAT is coming up…how’s everyone’s prep going?

^Pretty good. Just need to score a few points higher to get past NMSF cutoff. Damn CR, my brain doesn’t like you.

2 AP Classes + 1 Honors + 5 Clubs =

Gotta love Junior Year

bump! who’s taking the SAT on November 3rd?

I’m jealous of you guys who only get a few hours of hw… APUSH takes ~3+ hours a class. AP Chemistry is 1-2 hours, unless we have a lab write up, which takes much longer (although we have 1 week to do write-ups). AP L&C is very little (but my teacher says that was only this quarter).

Pre-calc H takes everyone an hour or more (usually takes me around 2). Comp. Repair is nothing. Chorus is nothing.

I am! I’m a little nervous about the math section - but CR and W have been going fine…

APUSH isn’t too bad here - I’m really lucky that I have a great teacher. The work load is probably the heaviest in Honors American Lit, 1-2 hours of reading a night plus the homework and essays/projects - but the course that is my biggest challenge is definitely Honors Pre-Calc …

APUSH takes me about 3 hours on a reading night. We usually have to read every night for about a week, then I’m free from homework for about 2 weeks. My only homework for AP Psych is note taking, which takes about 4 hours, but that’s only once every 2 weeks or so. I have about 10 Physics problems to do after every lecture, which usually takes a couple hours (plus a bit more time studying on my own). I hardly get any homework in AP Lang. Precalc takes 1-2 hours.

When you consider the fact that I only have 3 classes a day, then my other 3 the next day, etc., I have 2 days to do my homework (usually more as things are assigned in packets). So I actually go a lot of days without doing any homework, chilling, and just catching up on sleep. I feel like I’m finally getting used to the routine of junior year; the only problem is, I still can’t find enough time to play tennis, go to the gym, study for the SAT, etc. I’m either overloaded on homework or exhausted. I guess I had to trade my life in for good grades…

As a Junior going full IB in pursuit of the Diploma, I can definitely say Junior year is the most difficult so far.

With 2 AP classes, 5 IB classes, and 2 semi-self study AP subjects, I’m surprisingly doing alright in everything except APUSH.

I’m taking…
AP Psychology
AP US History
IB Math SL 2
IB English HL 1
IB Spanish SL 1
IB Chemistry SL 2
IB Theory of knowledge

Then, every so often, I’m looking over some things I’ll need to know for AP Lit and AP Chem that weren’t covered in my IB classes.

I’m doing pretty well in some of my classes, 100 in Spanish and ToK, 98 in English, 94 in Psych. I could be doing better in Chem with a 90 and math is a 85, which I need to bring up.

APUSH is just killing me. With a 73, it’s pretty obvious how you guys who study hours and hours per night are getting a much higher grade.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with most of my classes and only two or three of them are really challenging to me. After I suck this up, next year should be much easier.

YOU DON’T KNOW PAIN. There is nothing worse than the total limbo of senior year before you’re accepted to your top school (GA Tech for me). Nothing. You need to keep working, sort of, in case you get deferred, but it’s also impossible to care because your app is already sent in. Awful awful awful. I literally hate my life right now, the crushing boredom is unbelievable. Added to the boredom is a ■■■■■■■■ senior project thing that I get the pleasure of presenting awkwardly to 2 different classes this week and then for a grade to some random adults in a couple of weeks (the ones in front of other seniors is supposed to be practice, but I REAALLLY don’t care that much about increasing my presentation grade by like two points, I’d much rather avoid the uncomfortableness of public speaking in front of high school peers, I’m not nervous about presenting in front of 3 random adults you morons, but I’m pretty effing nervous about being judged by 30 of my peers)

You juniors are at least doing something that directly and unquestionably affects your future, at least in regards to college admissions. We have nothing. Just vague paranoia about getting deferred, and lots and lots and lots and lots of killing time. Misery.

For Junior Year I am taking:
AP Psych
AP World History
AP Marco and Micro
AP Language
H Accounting II
H Chemistry
H Pre-Calc

need tips on studying! never thought it would be this hard.

@Jonahorants YAY~! I have two AP’s too! But these two AP classes are ruining my life lol.

Rickdust, you’re applying to Ga Tech too? That’s awesome. I’m applying too, for computer science. It’s my number 2 school; 1 is Columbia. But I agree, the limbo is extremely hard. I think, though, I’m just going to chill after Jan. 1st. Idrc about what colleges think in that regard.

I really hope I get into Ga Tech: it’s a really good fit. Half my family went there, most of them still live there.

And lol guys, my advice to you is don’t let the stress go to your head. RELAX. CHILL. Enjoy your life. And don’t give me this bull***** that “it’s junior year! I can’t enjoy I have work!” You do not have that much work that you have to spend every waking moment doing it. If you are doing that, you’re working too hard, and doing too much, if that’s possible.

I hate using exceptions to generalize, but, personally, I was able to take 3 APs Junior year and 5 AP’s this year, get A’s on everything, and do well on the SAT’s/ACT’s without doing more than 2 hrs of work a day. Efficiency is key: work smart, and don’t work as hard on bs work. Don’t be “that kid” that hands in a 20 page outline when the teacher asked for a 2 page one, or a 12 page paper when you only needed 6.

And don’t focus on your stress. The more you say “Oh, I have 2 hrs of this, and 4 hrs of this, and I have to play squash and kill zombies today etc.” the more frustrated and annoyed you’ll get. Just do what you have to do instead of dramatizing it. THAT GOES TO YOU, PEOPLE MOANING ABOUT WORK (catchtwentythree and IBtired, and most of this thread). Live your life.

junior year is terrible, especially for for ib diploma students
ap calculus
ib biology hl
ib spanish 1 sl
ib history hl
ib english hl
ib economics sl

with two ib tests and an ap test in the spring, not to mention the PSAT, SAT, and SAT2 tests.
all in all, i miss 9th/10th grade

I miss middle school and elementary school. Due to parental pressure or whatever, I cared about grades quite a bit but now I realize that it really didn’t mean much except for advanced classes where you had to keep a certain mark or risk being booted.

Still, it was so much better. I could come home and just read books for hours or go for a bike ride or play tennis etc. Now, there’s like no time for anything enjoyable. I mean, I like my ECs, but I don’t really get ‘alone time’ to read and think like I used to :frowning: I miss being young.

And what’s worse is the fact that the rest of life won’t be any better, or at least not until you retire!

^I don’t know about that. In middle school all I thought about was playing more Runescape.

What a misspent youth.

HAHA MutaRiSC I feel you. Runescape was turrrbleee for my childhood.
Last night I got 3 hours of sleep. And they tell me college is going to be worse -________-

Bumping this. Break is almost here! Who’s finals are coming up?
