too few ap tests?

Perhaps this is a ridiculous question, but it has been nagging at me, so I must ask it anyway...

I took 3 ap tests as a sophomore and I am only taking 4 is a junior...is that too few? Do colleges look upon that few tests as not good for a junior, or is that plenty? I am taking two college courses as well so that is why I didn't want to take more...I was afraid I wouldn't do well if I took more, because I do find them very challenging. Should I try to take a lot next year, even though colleges do not see the scores?

4 AP courses is pretty good for a junior, or even a senior...you really only need like 5 AP classes before you leave high school o get into a decent school. You are on the right track.

My school doesn't even allow sophomores to take AP classes. So you're better off than anyone in my school.

Hahahahahahahahaha

Believe me, there is no such thing as "too few" AP tests. Colleges will commend you for taking even only one AP.

Seriously, some ppl in this board are nuts!

What kind of question is this???!!

Unless you take 14 AP Courses, top colleges will see you as a slacker. If your school doesn't offer 14, you MUST self study (or take online or at another school). This applies to everyone, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.

Once you get out of the top 5-10 colleges range, the number of APs required is around 10ish. Anything less, and you're pushing it.

Gold Shadow, I agree that 14 AP courses would make you very competitive in the admissions process at top 10 institutions, however if one does not it does not mean they are a slacker. A friend of mine gained early admission to Harvard this year with 7 total AP courses, half of your suggested amount. Another friend's brother got into Cornell with only ONE AP class (even though my school offers 26). Colleges know that if your school only offers 4 APs and you take all 4 APs that you are challenging yourself.

GoldShadow was joking... lol.

yea, at least I seriously hope he's kidding.
i'm takin 10 btw, but i didn't take any as a sophmore, so ur better off than me (cause my school decides to be ridiculous like that)

Yes, it was difficult for me to get into the classes as a sophomore...

I am just weird and paranoid about AP tests, I suppose. I find them slightly addictive even though they are evil. :-) I wish I had decided to take more. 10 sounds slightly insane...but awesome. I was just afraid that I was not taking enough...Especially since my extracurriculars are rather poor...I do research, but I don't have much besides that.

If you could self-study one more with a 4 or higher, you could qualify for National AP Scholar, which would be great!

dude, if you already have 3 done in soph year, doing 7 in the next 2 years isn't redic at all. i'm doing 5 and 5 in 11th and 12th grade. that's redic.

The number of APs you should take really depends on the number of Aps your school is offering.
