Too Late for Appeals?

Is it too late for appeals? I was rescinded on July 6th, but on the same day I was hospitalized for two weeks, had surgery, then hospitalized again, then was bedridden until recently... I e-mailed them, but all they did was send me the format for appealing and not the last date to appeal.

School is almost starting…

I figure it’s worth a shot, so I’m writing my appeal right now lol…

Wait, is UCR the only school you got into?
*See, I encouraged you to write your appeal!!

Yeah, the only UC I got into. Too late to go to a Cal State. Currently attending El Camino College, but don’t really like it… I was going to appeal but ended up getting hospitalized the same day I was rescinded so I haven’t really gotten the chance to write it…

damn that sucks…

Considering everyone pretty much already picked their classes, i’d say it’s a long shot but go for it!

Since they sent you back the format. Theres nothing to lose.

Sent in my appeal today. Wish me luck!

Good luck! Hope to see you around campus soon! :D

Thank you! I hope so too =]

I just received a reply from the appeals committee and this is what they said.

I am responding to your appeal of our decision to cancel your admission due to receipt of multiple D grades in your senior year. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate your request.

Your overall required UC evaluated grade point average (GPA) dropped to 2.96. The minimum required overall UC evaluated GPA with your test score total of 353 is 3.0. Therefore, you no longer meet UC admission requirements.

So I missed the mark by .04… I don’t think they even read my appeal, only looked at my high school transcript because I put a thorough and legimate explanation as to why my grades dropped… Can high school teachers still change grades? My physics teacher never added my extra credit which probably would’ve bumped up my 69% to a C. Never thought it would affect me this much…

most schools do have a change of grade form. i would say stick out jc for a year, you can apply to privates in a year and ucs and states in two.

Don’t some universities have admissions for different quarters?

Like, winter and spring instead of fall

I heard UC’s arent accepting Winter / spring transfers because of budget cuts

whao really?
well, i wouldn’t be surprised though…the admission is far less selective than ucsd, ucla or ucb

jaesango: not to mention harvard, yale, princeton, mit, dartmouth, brown, columbia, and cal tech

I plan to reappeal b/c my Physics teacher fixed my grade. I calculated my GPA and it seems to be a 2.9933… I need a 3.0 to be eligible, do they round up if its that close? The lady told me that I had a 2.96 GPA prior to the change but I think there’s something wrong with that.
I took a total of 32 classes.

Prior to change

4 A’s
17 B’s
9 C’s
2 D’s
More than 8 Honors/APs (Cap at 8) = 8

4 x 4 = 16
17 x 3 = 51
9 x 2 = 18
2 x 1 = 2
8 AP/Honor = 8

(16 + 51 + 18 + 2 + 8) / 32 (Classes) = 2.96875

After change

4 A’s
17 B’s
1 C’s
1 D’s
More than 8 Honors/APs (Cap at 8) = 8

(16 + 51 + 20 + 1 + 8 ) / 32 (Classes) = 3.0

Am I right?

I don’t think D’s count when calculating GPA

Pretty sure they do.

Grade Point Average
To determine your eligibility, the University calculates your GPA in the “a-g” subjects by assigning point values to the grades you earn, totaling the points and dividing the total by the number of “a-g” courses. Points are assigned as follows:** A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points, D=1 point, and F=0 points. /B
Only the grades you earn in “a-g” subjects in the 10th and 11th grades - including summer sessions - are used to calculate your preliminary GPA. Courses you took in ninth grade can be used to meet the Subject Requirement if you earned a grade of C or better, but they will not be used to calculate your GPA.
