Too many credit hours denying internal transfer

Hey everyone! First of all, i'm still fairly new to this forum so please excuse me if I violate any terms or offend anyone in anyway unintentionally.

Alright, so my topic. I plan on attending UT (class of '17!) for Business as my first choice. However, due to the emphasis on leadership in extracurricular activities, I have some doubts. Although I've taken tough classes, attend a rigorous magnet school(LASA), and have still managed to maintain a high gpa/top 10% as well!

I was wondering that if I get denied into McCombs, but get accepted into Engineering or Natural Sciences, but I have like 40 hours coming into UT, and I plan on doing 30 hours my first year, that is 70 hours! I will knock off all the core, plus extra classes need to transfer to McCombs, but will they not take me for having too many hours? If so, I would have to finish through with engineering probably....

Anyways, I appreciate any and all feedback from you guys. And please save yourself the time and don't try asking me for stats to chance me or anything. I know where I stand. I am fully capable of attending McCombs, maybe even the BHP. This is just a "what if" for a lack of a better phrase.

…no response yet. guess people are too busy with applications…

I guess my question to you is what exactly are you claiming credit for? APs? Claiming credit is not just about taking everything just because you can. It’s about taking what you need to meet requirements to your specific degree program. There is also another thread debating whether to take credit for APs or to “re-take” the actual course. Even though my D scored 5s on most of her APs, she has found that for most, re-taking was extremely beneficial because the subject matter is covered much deeper. Also in her program, the AP english credit was not even usable for her required English (Plan II). Also, even if you decided to claim all your credit, you don’t have to do it straight away. Those scores stay in a vitural vault and can be claimed anytime.

And as far as BHP…typically reserved for top 2%ers. So if your top 2…you have a great shot at not only McCombs but BHP as well!

70 hours is perfectly fine and poses no threat to being denied into the business school. It’s only once you hit 90 hours that they will care.

Well, I’m going to have about 24-30 (definitely-maybe) hours through dual-enrollment. Then i’ll have another 20+ hours through AP (calculus, physics, economics (macro and micro), stats, english, computer science). I’m glad to hear that I can get in. Yeah, I’ve heard about the whole rank issue, and it annoys me. I can transfer to my home school and become valedictorian, and then my chances would go up. But I choose to go to a much better school. It’s okay, I’m happy at my school since I’m not bored and I am learning interesting things. They could cut the work load and stress though :/
