Took Spanish 2 in freshman yr of high school. Is that enough for IGETC?

No, I know you’re talking IGETC. So was I.

I got the gist of what you wrote but it’s been a million years. You had no one to practice with, right? My daughter said the same thing.

I believe OP TAGed to UCD and is trying to complete IGETC’s LOTE for his STEM major.

Post #7’s link is the official document for UC and CSUs. See section 10.6.

Generally, first semester of a language at CC is usually equivalent to year 1 AND year 2 of HS language. Second semester at CC is equivalent to year 3 of HS language. Third semester at CC is usually equivalent to year 4 of HS language.

At UCLA, first semester of Spanish at CC, articulates to first and second quarters at UCLA; second semester of Spanish at CC articulates to third quarter at UCLA.

STEM majors that accept IGETC, will allow HS completed courses (C- or better) of LOTE. Some transfer majors such as English, require LOTE to be taken at CC, not HS level courses of language.

Its okay, I’m out of practice too! It is actually grammatically incorrect now that I look at it.

I said “I love the french language and I want to speak all the time, but no one speaks with me”

Clearly I need to follow up with French 2

@lindyk8‌ at UCB the Foreign Language Requirement is 3 years of HS or second semester equivalent at UCB. It looks like that means second semester at CC not 2 years at CC.

I believe you’re confused because you weren’t the one taking the courses and trying to meet the requirements, it was your daughter.

@happy2help, you brought up a point I was always confused about because I have seen that two semester line from the UCs but it made no sense because CSM requires two years for IGETC qualification.

Spanish 110 is a daily semester class that is the equivalent of one year. Span 111 and 112 are the semester courses that together are the equivalent of one year.

To qualify for IGETC, you need either Span 120 (a daily class, which is the equivalent of second year) or completion of Span 122, which is 4th semester Spanish.

Here is the Spanish course list:

Here is the CSM IGETC form.
At bottom of first page it notes Span 120 or 122 as the lowest acceptable courses for IGETC.

@lindyk8, it would be interesting to find out how your D’s DAR has articulated the LOTE courses.

lindyk8, I don’t mean to be rude, but you’re off-topic and obfuscating the original question which is whether or not the OP’s high school records satisfy the LOTE requirement for IGETC. I have already answered this question and others support it. This has nothing to do with college classes.

@Anikom15 I believe OPs question is answered already in terms of OP’s two years HS language fulfills UC rules, but that as this thread shows, it can vary with each CCC depending on their IGETC rules.

@happy2help, yeah, very good point. I don’t know that. I looked at some of the other CCs IGETC in the same district and they weren’t even the same. A couple said 4 semesters, 2 others the equivalent of two semesters. Weird.

Personally, I’m glad this convo happened. It tells everyone that as @luckie1367 said, it’s not simply the UC req, you need to actively find out the agreement with each CCC.

I agree with @lindyk8. The point of these discussions is to a) solve the OP’s problem, and b) provide information for others in a similar situation.

It seems like we were able to do both
