So, I signed up for the ACT in June, and I already paid and everything, but I just found out that I got a 2300 on my SAT. The reason that I still want to take the ACT is in case my subject tests are bad, some schools accept the ACT in their place. However, I have barely prepped and I feel like I'm definitely not going to do as well as I did on the SAT. I just have a bad feeling about it, not sure why. I'm really busy these next 2 weeks and I feel like I'm not going to have time to do much prep, so I might get a bad score. Would a lower score on the ACT devalue my high SAT score if I submit it to colleges that look at all scores?

A few things here:

I’d say that a 2300 is good enough for admission to any college/university. I would also say that the only thing that might look better is a 36 composite on the ACT.

I don’t think you are required to supply a score to a college (in case you don’t get a score you want).

You already paid to register for the ACT, so the time commitment (provided you spend no time prepping) is just one morning.

Thanks! Honestly I don’t think it would be possible for me to get a 36, unless a miracle happens haha. But I’ll try my best!
Also, just wondering/clarifying, are there any colleges that would need to see my ACT? That is, if I were to submit my SAT and subject tests?

You really need to have an idea where you may want to apply for college and what their test requirements are. You are right in that many (top) schools will require 2 SAT subject tests IF you are submitting the SAT. If you feel that you can really do well in 2 subject tests and do not feel confident that you can get an equivalent ACT score to your SAT score, then I would forget about the ACT.

Well, honestly I don’t feel confident in my subject tests (I have to take 3 this weekend), but I’ll just try my best on both and see. On another note, would retaking bad subject tests in October fix the problem if they’re bad, or would colleges (the ones that don’t accept score choice) look at the first ones and count them against me? And what about the ACT?

They will take the highest subject test score and highest composite ACT score, unless they superscore the ACT. Best thing to do is to check each school’s policy.

if you do get 35, that’s the equivalent of a 2340, so if u get either 35 or 36, u should send that ACT score in too

Given that you’ve scored 2300 on the SAT, I implore you not to waste your money (or that of your parents) on the ACT.

^ The fact that he has already signed up for ACT. It would be a waste of money if not taking it.

LoveArtForever: Just do a couple full practice test, and you should be all set. You got 2300 in SAT that means you are academically sounded. You just need to get familiar with the test format. You should be able to get 34+. If the score is bad, you just ignore it and don’t send it out. If it is good, it is a nice supplement to your SAT even it is already very good.
