I took the math II SAT the first time and got a 710 on it (Crap score) and just took it again. I'm pretty sure I did better, however I did skip the same amount of problems as I did last time and am sure I got 1 wrong maybe 2. I usually have three more wrong than I usually anticipated out of the all the practice tests I've taken.

Anyways to question: should I cancel it? I'm not sure how it will affect me in terms of getting into college. Really I want to aspire for a computer science major. Ideally I'd like to go to UC berkley (Maybe even stanford!) as they don't ask for more than one SAT subject score, but I'm not sure how it will affect my chances of getting into other colleges that specialize in computer science. I'm currently riding on a 3.9-4.0 GPA (weighted) and have taken AP comp sci AB and am a Sophomore. I took a diagnostic SAT test and got a 2000, however I really had no idea what I was doing at the time and am sure I can improve it. If it helps, my school is the #1 ranking school for computer science according to collegeboard and their school rank in terms of academics vs. other schools is pretty high. I also live in California, so UC's are a priority.

Thanks in advance.

You have a pretty low GPA anyway…

HOW IS A 3.9 - 4.0 A LOW GPA!!! I think that is the high zone for an unweighted gpa, although a 4.0 would be the best just try to get as close as possible.

I think you need to improve your SAT to around 2300 and get your ACT to around 34 and that should be good enough scores. Also make sure you show colleges that you are a passionate person. A passionate person with a 3.9 GPA, 2250 SAT, and 34 ACT beats an unpassionate (is this a word?) person with a 5.0 GPA, 2400 SAT, and 36 ACT.

Good luck, I have the same dream schools but I am right now a freshmen.

@Bernie What kind of GPA would you recommend?
@youngster My GPA is weighted for 3.9-4.0, I can improve it some what, my grade usually however between A-'s and A’s with usually only one class being a B/B+ out of 3-4 AP’s.
2300 SAT is going to be hard to achieve, I’ve generally sucked at standardized testing since I was little, probably won’t change. I’m not sure about the ACT though, I don’t know much about it.

My main question is about my SAT math II grade, should I cancel it so it doesn’t effect my chances into colleges that don’t use score choice? Or should I keep my scores and hope for the best?

@youngster9
He said 3.9-4.0 GPA (weighted)

For Stanford and Berkeley you need like at least an 3.8+ Unwieghted. What’s your UC GPA?

3.75 unweighted.

Stanford I can only dream.
