Top 50 private

Is there any top 50 private schools accepting cc transfers with 3.3 gpa?
How are Emory, Carnegie mellon, Tufts, Lehigh, and Brandeis? Are they too far reach for 3.3 cc gpa?

My friend had a 2.9 GPA and got into CMU (after being wait-listed). He had some fairly impressive ECs, a 1470 SAT, and great essays though.

Sunada777,

The schools you are listening are mainly top 30-ish, and will be difficult to get into with a 3.3 from CC. That's not to say you shouldn't apply, but just remember that places like Tufts and CMU don't accept very many students and you will be competiting with people who will have higher GPAs, many coming from 4-year schools.

Is their any time to raise your GPA? I think that would be the best way you could increase your odds.

I dont discourage you to apply, but i think the 35-50 range is more plausible in your situation....any higher, you should wait until you can attain at least 3.5...

I think you would have better chances at a few good UCs if you were a CA res.

haha yeah... a 3.3 will get you into a few of the top 12 publics! haha gota love livin in california!

idk...but a 3.3 from a CC does not make you competitive, if ur an admissions officer at one of these places, they want to know you will succeed and be able to perform well (at least average for their school). In fact, most schools admit transfer students expecting that they will be above the average or far above it. The last thing a school needs is a kid who is flunking out, hurts retention, it just is really bad, but it is a reality nonetheless. I think that a 4 year university kid needs a 3.5 to be competitive, and from a CC, i would say a 3.7 at the very least. Students from top 15 schools apply as transfers all of the time and many of them have 3.5+ at very competitive places.

Good luck!

You only need a 3.5+ gpa from a 4 year university if you are applying to some of the Top 25-40 schools.
