What are some top LACs that have outstanding Biology/Biochem/Chemistry Departments, as well as good medical school admittance rates?

I'm going to have to second this request!

Too many to list. Those departments are going to be pretty strong at most LACs. Can you give any other qualifying criteria - location, size, etc?

Biology: Swarthmore, Reed, Haverford, Kalamazoo, Mount Holyoke, Carleton, Oberlin, Earlham, Harvey Mudd, Franklin and Marshall, Wellesley, Amherst, Lawrence U, Grinnell, Bowdoin, Pomona, Hendrix, Davidson, Williams, Bryn Mawr, Bates, Allegheny, Smith, Occidental, St. Olaf, Hiram, Beloit, Macalester, Knox, Hampshire, Bucknell, Colorado College, Juniata

Chemistry: Harvey Mudd, Wabash, Reed, Carleton, Bowdoin, Grinnell, Haverford, Franklin and Marshall, College of Wooster, Bryn Mawr, Allegheny, Knox, Occidental, Bates, Juniata, Kalamazoo, Williams, Swarthmore, Oberlin, Holy Cross, St. Olaf, Hendrix, Hope, Davidson, Ursinus, Kenyon, Macalester, Centre, Wellesley, Wheaton, Trinity U, Lawrence U, Colgate, Ripon, Drew, Willamette, Beloit, Augustana, Hiram, Lake Forest, Gustavus Adolphus, Rose-Hulman, Albion, Amherst, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Hamline, Bethel, Mount Holyoke, U Puget Sound

lets, see, can't be too rural, but not like directly in the city... Must be within 3 hours of boston, and has a strong music program

Wesleyan meets the criteria you listed.

About 90% of Pomona students who apply to medical school get in, which is about twice the national average.

The chart below listing undergraduate origins of PhDs in Sciences and Engineering is from the Swarthmore web site for the decade 1995-2004. Obviously, the data skews in favor of schools offering engineering degrees (MIT, Caltech, Mudd, Swarthmore, etc.). But it gives a pretty good snapshot of LACs (and some uni's) with strong undergrad departments in the sciences in general. Missing from the list but still to be considered, especially in the Boston/NE zone, are (at least) Bowdoin and Wellesley.

Within this general listing there are still some notables, Carleton and Mudd in chemistry, Swarthmore and Reed in biology, and others. Hard to answer the question about music without knowing your specific needs/interests re: 2nd majoring, performance, etc. ALL of these schools have superb reputations and will provide great support to a medical school applicant. Ultimately, you'll best be served going to the one that seems to fit you best.
