So i'll be moving into dorms this september, and i'm wondering, which is better, a top bunk or a bottom one?
i heard that in a bottom bunk, your friends will come in and sit on your bed often
but in a top bunk, you have to climb up and might hit your head on the ceiling often, plus you might roll off and fall onto the floor.

you might not get to choose. i’m not sure about the other colleges but at least in muir, when you get your room assignment you’re also assigned to a bed.

Pick top if you have the choice, because 1) if people visit, they tend to sit on the bottom bunk; 2) if your roommate sleeps later than you do, you’d see less light coming from his/her laptop/light from the top.

bottom!
you’ll never want to go up to your bunk bed except to sleep. if you have the bottom one you can lie there, study there, whatever you want… way more comfortable.

and my roommate who had the bottom bunk had stuff all over/around the bed. it just feels like the room belongs to whoever has the bottom bunk

It really depends on height also! I slept in a top bunk before, and for the first few months my head kept hitting the ceiling! Haha, I’m 6’2 now, and I’m still afraid! I prefer bottom because the ease of just going to bed is easier than going up to the top!

Top does have its advantages, less light in bottom, more sense of feeling “alone” and overall feel of being comfortable without having your roomie look at you (if your very shy).

Bottom has its con, a lot of people will sit on it ( you don’t know what you they sat on before or if they are even CLEAN!) usually messy and yeah… messy.

This year, you couldn’t choose. Each person was assigned a bed in their housing contract.

^ Unless your roommate is willing to give you whichever you want, you’ll be sleeping in your assigned top/bottom bunk.

ditto the OP. i hope i get the bottom one. everything just seems more convenient. i’m the person who usually needs to go to the bathroom late at night so being assigned the bottom bunk makes it more convenient.

^ Except for when everyone/guests sits on your bed (unless you’re okay with that)

^as long as they dont pass gas or come in dirty it’s all good=]

If you have a gf, top bunk :)
