Top Ten most Prestigious Public Universities

rjk, no - we are talking about one of the top 3 Music departments in the country:

[About Us, Department of Music, UC Berkeley](Performance Spaces • Music)

which you claimed falsely (again) that Michigan blows away

rjk, what kind of moronic comment is this?

another attack?

can’t you even take the time to review UC Berkeley’s Music Department?

so now you continue with the insults?

Michigan has public health and teaches biology. UMDNJ doesn’t sound like Rutgers to me. It’s like comparing Michigan AA to Michigan Deaborn. Also, Michigan is a better school all around, hence the topic of my debate.

tenisghs, I was referring to ALL Campuses of Rutgers. But even if you add up Michigan’s department’s across its 3 campuses, you can’t beat that.

Novi, as much as I would like to agree with you here, Adams has a point. Personally I would compare Berklee to Juilliard like Tufts to Harvard.

Any “moron” could tell you that Michigan is a hot spot for theatre, music, and musical theatre. Berkeley is not; UCLA fills that function among the UCs. Music majors at Michigan outnumber those at Berkeley by four to one.

Michigan has specialized majors in composition, jazz, piano, etc. and offers a BM. Berkeley has only a very general BA.

The rankings that you refer to are of no use to most undergraduates. The fact that Juilliard, Curtis, and Eastman (among many others) are absent should clue you into the fact that it measures music theory, not music performance. rjk is referring to the latter, as do most people interested in majoring in music.

There are NO RANKINGS OF MUSIC DEPARTMENTS. Thick indeed!

rjk, so now you are back to discussing “quality” of programs and not breath of programs offered?

tell us, how do the “quality” of programs of Michigan compare to those of UC Berkeley?

what is the count so far?

UC Berkeley - 90
Michigan - 5

What point recharge? Adams was referring to UC Berkeley, not the Berklee school!

collegebiomed, it is not fair to include ALL campuses of Rutgers. Our entire argument has focused on FLAGSHIP campuses. Other campuses are irrelevant. No one cares about Newark and Camden. That’s like claiming UCSF is part of Berkeley’s campus which is not true. They will focus on the New Brunswick flagship campus. Just like when students mention Michigan on CC, they are usually referring to Ann Arbor.

hippo, you really didn’t just post this, did you?

are you really saying that that number of students in a department is what defines the quality of the department?

please don’t tell us that you just posted this?

UMDNJ is part of Rutgers University.

“In 1977 an affiliation agreement with Middlesex General Hospital (now known as the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital) established the New Brunswick hospital as core teaching facility for the CMDNJ - Rutgers Medical School”

It is a decent indicator of quality. People will not pay UM level tuition to study the arts if it were not very good in that area.

but rjk, you say that Michigan is a better school all around than Rutgers, even though it doesn’t offer as many programs, then you say that Michigan is also a better all around school than UC Berkeley because Berkeley doesn’t offer as many programs?

which one is it?

Tell me about the quality of Medicine, Dentisty, Pharmacy, and Nursing at Berkeley. You can’t obviously. Michigan is top 5-10 in all of those areas. It also offers virtually everything else that Cal does, although not quite as highly rated in most areas. For the last time, Michigan offers MORE high quality programs across the MOST disciplines of any public school in this country.

collegebiomed, please list the schools that are on the New Brunswick flagship campus. Do not include Newark and Camden.

I meant his point about Berkeley having a superior music program. Much to my dismay, I looked at several ranking sites just now and they all seem to corroborate. Berklee on the other hand is not even as good as Michigan.

rjk, so are you saying that there are no rankings of PHD programs of Music Departments?

because, as you know, “Prestige” has a lot to do with the quality of the PhD Program.
